Does anyone think Pope is a little soft for this job? We don’t need him yelling and acting a fool on the sideline but damn, show some passion and fire out there instead of looking like a deer in headlights.

Pope started out his coaching career yelling like Ricky P, but his players didn't respond well. He switched to the positive reinforcement approach because it fit better for where he was. He needs to find a happy medium. Positive reinforcement has its place, but someone ducking around on the court needs a knot in their tail. Pope needs to find a way to light a fire under his guys and not rely on the assistants for discipline.

If Coach Pope acted like Bobby Knight, folks would go bonkers; if he acted like the real Pope, fans would go bonkers.
It reminds me of something a coach told me a long time ago; "I don't know the key to success but the key to failure is trying to please everyone".
Maybe it isn't all on the coach but the players being a little entitled after getting a paycheck and thinking they are better than what others think they are.

We've never had a coach who I wanted to succeed more. Wonderful human being, former player, lovely family. Supremely passionate about the program. But, I don't think he's the right person for the job.

I hate to see him fail, but our program is bigger than any one person. We need an innovative mind who is also an absolute dog. Mitch is incapable of making that hire. Maybe the next guy will.

i think Pope is the "group hug" type of "sit by the campfire and tell stories" kinda coach. and i'm betting religion somehow makes it's way into how he handles the team. the ole, "oh it's ok sweetie, just keep trying" kinda thing. not a mean bone in his body it doesn't appear....afraid to offend or hurt someone's feelings kinda thing. if he's the opposite of any of those things i'm not seeing it.

From the perspective of what this means to Pope, absolutely. But I've never seen a coach as driven to succeed, and the ability to elevate players to such a light level, as Pitino. I thought Pope would be a lot like Pitino, but that's unfair to Pope.

Butters…you can always tell his posts by his inability to add an apostrophe and an s to people’s names when he creates the title.

Simple question: Do you know the man AT ALL; if the answer is no how could you possibly come to that conclusion. Everyone that answered that has not met and interacted with him frequently can't possibly answer that question either.

Aabsolutely. He and these players are soft as marshmallows. If he don't toughen up and put a foot in some asses he will be gone the way of Stoops. I'm starting to think they got rid of the wrong Mark.
