Is there a synergy deficit?

I am venturing into some deep waters with this post and I may be totally misreading what I think I see. But appears that the back court duo of Luke Kennard and Grayson Allen, though individually very talented, are not playing well together. They don't seem to bring out the best in each other. Against Miami during the first half, for example, it seemed that both payers were going through the motions. When they sat to start the second half Jones and Jackson brought a fight and a synergy that saved the day. Am I misreading the dynamic between Luke and Grayson? Would energy levels improve if Luke became the point and Grayson the 2 guard?

I don't think we start both and I agree they don't set each other up and it shows in assists.

I think they are both premier CBB attacking 2's. Neither is a PG. I think that is the disconnect when they are on the floor together as 1 and 2.

Individually they are each incredibly talented, but I think each would perform better being fed by a PG, not another attacking 2.

JMHO.

I was a bit pissed when Grayson and Luke came in during the second half. I thought it was almost a Roy-like substitution.

IMO Frank Jackson must play a SIGNIFICANT role. If my opinion proves to be accurate then no you will no longer see Kennard and Allen in the backcourt together for extended periods of time unless foul or injury issues dictate otherwise.

Interesting idea. I've seen them play well together plenty this year. I think they are best when there's a third guy to facilitate.

There was a build up of negative energy that had been building for quite some time. It had gotten to the point I thought we had quit in the first half last night, maybe we did. I don't think anyone was playing well together. Capel made a choice to put their best defensive unit on the floor and that is why Kennard and Allen sat. Call it synergy call it whatever you want, this team is night and day different when they play hard and play with pride.

I would start the same lineup tomorrow that had so much success last night. If Allen and Kennard want their starting roles back they should earn it. We need to learn how to compete

Of course they can play together...just when neither are playing PG....Frank to PG and they both play off the ball and excel IMO

I think a lot was shown in the second of how this team should look!

Haven't been for Jackson starting this year but it was mainly just because his fouls and being able to stay on the floor. After the second half and seeing him slap the floor and see the fire come from him. I'll eat crow gladly if he brings it every night which I think he can.

I don't know what to think about Luke and Allen both score and rebound and maybe they were making the point it takes them all to win.

I hope it lights a fire under their tails either way

Luke and Grayson are our best offensive options....so we have to keep that in mind.

As for those two lacking synergy, well, I'm not buying it. It's not to shoot down the OP. I just don't see it that way. They're both scoring guards who rely on aggression and others setting them up. To be honest, that might have to be Frank for 25 minutes a night.

While that second half lineup really clicked last night, I'm not about to get carried away into thinking it's our best option because it worked one time. It sent a great message, though, to our two leading scorers. That message is that not only do others have to buy in, but they must, as well.

I like the quick turnaround in that we play again tomorrow evening. This team got a little taste of confidence last night and I'm hoping it carries over with the freshness still in their minds. It's going to be a daily and weekly process going forward.

I agree. Also like the sat/mon schedule. Get them used to something like that...could come in handy down the road.
