I was five and don’t remember the elite eight run of 1987. I remember being a big BJ Armstrong fan and watching him play, but that’s about it. No details of how the team did in the tourney.
Ben's track record says this is just the beginning of turning Iowa into a blueblood. You do know he's won over 80 percent of his games. You do know he won four D-II NATIONAL titles.
Tom Davis went 30-5 with George Raveling's players. Tom was good, but he was never able to recruit the talent Raveling did.
Ben, OTOH, is in the Elite Eight and ONE win from the Final Four with the guys he brought from Drake and Robert Morris. Nobody had ever heard of Curt Cignetti. Now everyone has after Indiana won the national title in football. Nobody--but Beth--had ever heard of Ben McCollom. Everybody knows him now.
Iowa just took it from Nebraska. The Hawkeyes imposed their will. That's not some empty platitude. Ben teaches it. Ben expects it. And again tonight, just as against Florida, the Hawkeyes showed what that looks like. Iowa willed its way to victory. And it was magnificent.

I was late 20s, back then it felt like Iowa was going to be a Big Ten contender every year. I'm starting to get that feeling again.
I was 10. It was my first sports heartbreak moment. Hawkeye hoops is reawakening a portion of the fan base that have been waiting for a LONG time! Many of us never left but man it feels so good!
Wasn't it getting boring rehashing the same old same old, year after year, about our disappointment, what could have been, and reliving the early years of successful Iowa Basketball? Now we have something new and fresh to discuss. Sounds like a commercial almost.
