Is this Field of Dreams game the best ever

I watched about 15 minutes and turned the channel. If they were playing on the actual field from the movie, it’d be awesome. And yes, I know why they aren’t. FOD is one of my favorite movies ever, and one of the two greatest baseball movies ever made, IMO. However, building a stadium next to the real thing, and acting like it is in some way connected to the real FOD, is a perfect example of today’s sports world. We can’t make baseball what it used to be, but we can go with a cheap knockoff brand and hope no one notices.

They couldn't use the real field....it isn't big enough. It is right next to the other field...hell the house is right there...it's on the farm. Pretty cool imo.

They could have easily used the original field, with adjustments to the dimensions. As I said, I know why they didn’t use it. They had to make room for fans, TV crew, etc. This wasn’t about the FOD. It was about FOX making money.

Everything is about making money. The movie was about making money. The field the people built makes money.

I highly doubt the owners would have wanted MLB diggin' up their field to change dimensions.

You’re missing my point, but it’s all good. I don’t post much anymore, but I read some, and you are one of the good ones. I always enjoy your takes. Especially on the football board.

I think it's still kind of cool, but I was looking forward to them having to chase the ball into the corn. They put up walls instead.

Way too many seats. It kind of ruins the purpose of it having the feel of a bunch of kids in the neighborhood playing a pickup game. But it's still cool. The only other baseball game I've watched this much of this summer was the all-star game.

That was fun. Next year I want to be selfish and have StL and the Cubs square off in the corn...

you may be on an isolated island here. The event seems to have been a major success and have seen nothing but rave reviews. Didn’t watch myself but did see clips of the opening ceremony with Costner and the players emerging from the field. It was pretty damn cool and well done. Don’t know how having it on the original field would have made this in any way better than it was. Just MO…

Not the best ever but definitely one of the coolest ever. Was a great game, in a really neat setting, and you couldn’t have scripted the ending any better.

I used to watch the movie every year or so, but I have a bit of a problem with the James Earl Jones "Baseball" speech now. A black activist pining for days when blacks weren't even allowed to play? Really?

I still love the "Moonlight" Graham character though. He gave up his dream of being a baseball player for the greater good of being a doctor, and in Heaven he is an old doctor, not a young baseball player. That is powerful, and thought provoking.

Some folks just live to complain it seems.

I didn't watch the game but watched their entrance and some buils up to it. Pretty ccol. They should do one every year imo. No doubt it would help the area and the community.

Rotate the teams. Not many things pro sports does nowadays that brings people together and unites them. This one did it seems. Do more of that Pro sports leagues, do more of that.

The 1968 basketball game between Houston and UCLA in the Astrodome was definitely unique at the time. I think it might have been the first nationally televised regular season college basketball game too!

Well they could have played the Reds instead since they were their WS opponents in '19 (1919, not 2019).

Hardly watch any TV other than sports or news, we for some unknown reason still get People magazine, and it is a near certainty that I will have no idea who any of these "celebrities" are. My Pop Culture skills are very very subpar.
With on the culture club folks.

Probably a good thing

🙄🙄🙄

Yankees don't play in the house that Ruth built...but it's still Yankee Stadium.
