I see some people saying no and yes. Thoughts?
They are, but I don't believe we need to play them every year. IMO, adding another P5 team to our schedule would be idiotic so I'd like to see us play ul on a rotating basis...like two times every 8-10 years. Then we could schedule home/away with other P5's like IU, Purdue, Ill, Va etc... That would give us the variety that lots of fans want.
They're now in a major conference. They don't need our air. No doubt we're a rival, but our poor play has made the upside to beating us very limited.....doesn't move the needle on the newswire. We've been such non-entities in CFB over the past years that beating us is about on par with beating other traditional P5 cellar dwellers (Wake, Kansas, IU) or a good MAC or CUSA school. State bragging rights are nice, but beyond that I think UL now "expects" to beat us.We should drop them in all sports - nothing to be gained by lowering ourselves to play them in anything. Without any air from us, they'll suffocate.
It is more of a rivalry than anyone else on the schedule save maybe UT(look at the emotion on the field 2 years ago)We have to get to the point that we win some of these games in order to fuel the rivalry. In truth if UK and UL played a game of checkers or chess it would be a rivalry.
The schools(in any kind of competition)don't really like each other and never will most likely(Pitino saw to that when he took the job at UL)
Until we get a lot better at football no one outside the state would care if we played a team from MarsIt's a good little in state rivalry, but outside of the state nobody really cares. UK-UT could be such a better rivalry like it used to be, if Kentucky would just get to a point where it was much more competitive.

They have had winning streaks in the series, and so have we. Their current winning streak began during the Bridewater and Hurtt years. I suggest recruiting methods that got Hurtt permanently banned from college coaching probably had a certain amount of impact on the series. Looking at the Powell scandal under grand jury investigation now, realizing it is probably only the tip of the iceberg, I look forward to a more level playing field in the future. When Louisville's assistant coaches like Lamar Thomas are jumping ship without even trying to hide their thinking, I start to believe that future isn't far off. But whether Kentucky-Louisville is a rivalry depends on your point of view. It's important to a lot of fans. Putting the game at the end of the season has given the series a more stable life expectancy. But Stoops just signed his best recruiting class. If that kind of recruiting continues, it won't be long before Kentucky will win more SEC games. Once that happens, more of our fans may find the conviction to view our conference rivalries with more of an emotional investment. When that happens, and after Louisville takes its medicine for using whores to recruit teenage athletes, I wonder if our fans will value the Louisville rivalry differently. I know that I will.Until we beat them five times in a row.
It will take at least five years, maybe six, we need some patience.
I agree. At this point I don't think UT will ever view us in the same light as Bama, UGA, or UF......or even Vandy......as a rival. In order for UT to consider us a rival we'd have to fight with them for East titles for a decade or better.
