I’m not sure you can use the word “engineer” to describe Devlin’s TD drive against OSU. Our last 14 plays of the game including that drive were runs and according to the box score Devlin didn’t throw a single pass. I do remember the controversy about Clark the next game though.Ah yes - that was the game where Darryl Clark (remember him?) got knocked out of the game and Pat Devlin (remember him?) came in to engineer a touchdown drive - the only one in the game.
Of course, the following week was the debacle at Iowa where apparently nobody thought to bring sideline heaters and Paterno stubbornly played Clark rather than let Devlin have the shot. If memory serves, there was concern Clark had suffered a concussion at OSU and that he hadn't fully recovered.
