It has to be official that the "Grand Experiment" is over, no?

reflecting in another post that now players are paid, they no longer have the luxury to fully explore other activities and opportunities Colleges and Universities offer.

I'm happy during my PSU tenure (91-95)I got to experience and attend the games, that legacy of players, exemplified.

Lets see what it evolves too.

Shalom

It's been done for a while. Joe wouldn't even recognize what college football has become since his passing

It has been revealed Allar has like ONE class this semester? Look, these guys are paid pros now for the most part. They are also mercenaries and will go and chase the biggest $ available. College football is far from the bobby soxed coeds being wooed by the "big man on campus" in his letter sweater. Let's be real, PSU has been a football factory for decades now. That is why it is one of the few programs "too big to fail" after all the Sandusky stuff. Hell, even USC hasn't fully recovered from the Reggie Bush penalties. Point here, the experiment failed. It still exists.......at Navy, the Ivy League but not big time football, especially in the Big 10.

When was the last time you heard of any player being academically ineligible. You all (well some) went to college, how do these guys, some have 3-4 different schools they have played for, credits and transfer rules no longer apply. An announcer or journalist should be fired if they use the term "student athlete". Sure they exist, on the swim team, wrestling or cross country, but certainly not in football.

I'd ask if it ever existed in the first place

I saw an interview with Allar after the UCLA loss. They asked him about the reaction on campus. His response was he couldn't say because he has hardly been on campus the whole semester other than the football facilities.

Yes, it's been over for a while now. JF did the best he could but the sport evolved into the business it really always was, but people pretended it wasn't and the kids were just lucky to get scholarships. That changed about 30 years back, maybe even further.

The Grand Experiment is dead but college sports aren't on life support. PSU wouldn't be spending $700 million on the stadium, paying up to $50 million for Franklin's severance, and probably paying $12 million + a buyout for a new coach if they didn't see a future for college sports. It's just that the term "college" sports is an oxymoron.

I mean think about it now. Allar gets paid, what $3million? Why does he need to go to class, to prepare for his "life's work". Allar likely has made north of $5 million during his PSU career. Smart investing (and this is where issues sometimes lie) but he will have a nest egg in the 10's of millions by the time he is in his early 30's.

The problem here, you give these guys, 18 year old's a million dollars, I mean think about yourselves then. Hell, even in the NHL, when say an 18 year old Sidney Crosby came into the league, he lived with Mario Lemieux and his family for a few years. Now you give these guys millions and they are unsupervised on a college campus with 1000's of other young folks. This can't be good. Of course as Allar proved, they live in such a bubble, they hardly ever interact. But if they were entitled, spoiled brats 25 years ago, imagine what they are now. I have heard at Pitt the reason why they struggled out of the gate is the QB was making more than the OC so he thought he didn't have to listen to him.

I do not know how this is sustainable. Reminds me alot of the LIV tour, and you wonder what happens as these NIL deals increase? If they start keeping more and more talent in college and less in the NFL, I think the NFL is going to have something to say about it and put college FB in its place.

The NFL has a free minor league. They're not complaining about anything.

And of course no one will overspend once it is on its way down…….
