You take the risk, leave no doubt, challenge the gods...why? Because it's sPitt. Neal didn't get it in the moment on 4th down. Win this game and then lose the next 8....we still love you. Or lose this game to shitsburgh and go 7-5 and win the cheezeshits bowl and guess what, we hate you. He's from Kentucky and understands moonshine but not us.

Neal's computer app must have told him not to go for it.

I follow the NFL much more closely than college these days, and coaches basically never pass on an opportunity to go for it on 4th and short on the opponent’s side of the field at that level, and have recently started pushing the envelope on their own side of the field. The reason for that trend is analytics. Neal, who touts himself as Mr. Detail ignored analytics and passed on an opportunity to win the game. He also earlier in the game passed on a 4th and 4 on their 39, and Pitt went the whole field and kicked a FG. That was another opportunity to pick up points, he goes for both of those and likely hits both and highly likely hits one, just one would have been enough. His mentality is that of a loser.

Does going for it guarantee a win? Shouldn't your defense be good enough to stop a game tying 92 yard drive? Shouldn't you WR catch a freaking pass with no player near him that gave up the game winning interception?

I mean after all it's Pitt. Put your balls on defense and make the stop. Catch the ball and get the drive. Make a play.

Coaching mistakes cost a lot more. Player mistakes cost a lot. Clean your game up it's a win. Or fork over 12 million and move on.
