Definitely think Matt is reaching here, but what do we know? Odd that Derryck would transfer right before landing Bolden.
I have a feeling that if DT wanted to stay, K had another plan to make the scholly situation work while still being able to add Bolden.
I guess ole Matt Jones is just bitter that Bolden isn't coming his team that he has to make up some BS to make himself and the trashing BBN feel a little better....oh well screw him,Cal and the entire BBN is what i say
Jones has been saying for a year that Bolden was UK's to lose. He's bitter. K never asked Thornton to leave. There were other ways to make room for that one scholarship.
Maybe he can write a story on how with all the five stars Cal has gotten, he's managed 1 less ship than K who has had half as many five stars/All Americans since Cal has started at Kentucky

Yes and the question has been answered for weeks as well. Thornton was NOT forced out to make room for Bolden.
Why would Derryck's parents say he wanted him to transfer over PT? He averaged 26 min in his first season. I don't get it!
I could write 5 pages on what I think about Matt Jones. He use to talk so much crap about Cal when he was at Memphis, but Calimari comes to Kentucky and all of the sudden, he loves the guy.
Duke just accepted a commit from a 3* international player (Jack White) who will likely not see the floor the entire season. The notion that the staff is pushing a 5* PG out (who would have played) to create space for Jack White is preposterous. I just don't think there's any tie at all between Bolden and Thornton. If somebody was going to get squeezed b y Bolden, it's White. Not Thornton.
DT's people don't want him competing for a pg spot... Bolden is not an issue, but a concern. DT leaving does free up a scholly and it does open the door for conversation, debate, and anger.

Playing time is a BS excuse. Kid had an average year with loads of improvement necessary. Wish him luck but we must do better than he showed.
This may sound terrible, but if his uncle and family are going to take to Twitter to blast the reputation of Duke, Coach K and the recruiting staff for the whole world to see, then Good Riddance is all I have to say.
I hate saying that but that's the way I feel!I'd be willing to put money on Grayson Allen. If nothing else, this gives Jackson more minutes early.
Shame to see him go. Bigger shame if it gets nasty, but also indicative of where some people are coming from. Shouldn't really affect Duke this year, but what about next? Jones graduates, Allen probably gone, and if Jackson is better than Thornton to the point of taking his minutes, he could be gone too. That leaves Luke for 17.
I can count on one hand stuff that pisses me off as royaly as multiple things in this situation. First seaofblue, ksr, and Matt jones can all three suck a big proverbial egg. DT'S uncle I'm just gonna keep my ummm thoughts for him to myself. After removing all of the negative I hope DT has a solid career elsewhere.
All that negativity can't be good for Thornton himself, knowing that if you do anything that could affect his playing time you'll get ranted out by an uncle
How sincere do you guys think the "closer to home" statement is? I know Michigan finished 2nd to Duke in DT's recruiting, so I hope that "closer to home" thing is just fluff.

Coach K needed a PG and offered Derryck a spot instead of his 5th year of high school. He gave Derryck numerous opportunities to grab the position, and DT averaged a solid amount of minutes (26) which is more than any duke pg since kyrie and before that.
Maybe he wasn't a fan of playing with the ISO wing ball that we had to implement with BI & Grayson. I'm probably biased, but I guess I don't get the logic. Maybe he didn't like playing for Coach or how the team was run; regardless, he was given a great opportunity and would have a chance to
Honestly, I wonder if he was worried about his minutes shrinking next season. At the same time- his minutes would balloon up the following year for sure as we'd lose matt, likely JT & HG. With everyone in the backcourt returning, plus Tatum, Amile staying (pushing tatum to the 3) and jackson, maybe he was worried about being the man. But I'd think running a title team might help your stock..

Nobody WANTS to play 4 years of college basketball anymore. Between feeling used by a flawed system and wanting make millions, if you don't have to stay 4 years then why do it?
They had a time table and it seems like they weren't satisfied with the progression or usage.
From a Devil's advocate approach, Derryck is now the kid who spurned a Duke PG spot because K used him. The media will eat this up. They live to hate Duke anyway, now all he has to do is be at least decent and play in the tourney and bam, he looks like a saint and K is trash. God forbid Duke plays Derryck's team in the tourney.
