Jabari vs. Ingram

Since it's the offseason, I figured it would be interesting to talk about a couple of the best one and dones in recent Duke history.

Along with both having a great season in a Duke uniform, they were also viewed as being some of the better NBA prospects coming from our program. My question is, who did you view as the better NBA prospect?

I personally believe Ingram's celiling is higher. I love Jabari, but during his season here I worried that he would be the classic "tweener" when he got to the NBA in that his offensive game would be great, but he may not be able to guard opposing power forwards very well.

Jabari had an excellent year and coming off the knee injury, his speed, bounce and power have all looked better. He is with the perfect team for his skill set, which is a big part of this whole thing.

Brandon is going to be on a team that totally relies on him early which could hurt him. He has great length and an excellent jump shot from mid range, and he's a good rim and pass protector. His strength is lacking though as is his lateral quickness. As backwards as the franchise is, the 76ers roster would be Brandon's best bet of the probable top 2.

I dont think Bari will be Carmelo Anthony or Paul Pierce which is who he compares most favorably to, but maybe a tier down.

I want to be very wrong, but I can't stop seeing early Yi Jianlian when I see Brandon. Huge skill set, great athleticism, little strength, not a team leader. Yi turned heads as a 16 year old at the 2004 olympics and early on was a solid contributor so this isn't a knock (I can't believe he's only 28 by the way). I think Brandon's ceiling is much higher (equal to Porzingis) but with the wrong team, I almost see Jianlian.

I was wrong about Justise contributing early, so I hope I'm wrong about Brandon.

Ultimately, I think Bari has the better career of the two.

I kind of feel the same way.

People have somewhat forgot about Jabari because of his knee injury. He was very good the latter half of this past season. He started to show those glimpses and bursts that we became accustomed to his one season at Duke.

Brandon is going to have the bigger adjustment, IMO. What separates him from a lot of guys with a similar stature is his ability to make shots. He's a very good shooter and actually surprised me at times how he reacted and played through contact.

As a person, Jabari was everything I could've asked for. As a player, the thing that I felt held him back was his shot selection. Parker fits the NBA mold for PF right now if he can improve his 3-point shot and commit more defensively.

Ingramturned out to be a better person and teammate than I expected at Duke based on the little I knew coming in. His best option may also be PF in the NBA. I question how good his outside shot will be from range but his choice of shots in college was significantly better then Parker.

Ultimately I think Winslow will be better than both without the flashy box score numbers.

Winslow fell into the absolutely perfect spot, Duke south. A championship organization which a good coach, great front office, and veteran leadership.

Parker- had quiet honestly one of the best seasons ever, maybe the best, for a Duke Freshman individually. The knee injury really put him on the back burner in terms of remembering how special of a talent he is. He got better as the year went on and hopefully with a full off-season, healthy, he can take another jump next year. The bucks can be pretty damn good very soon with him healthy b/c they have some talent.

Ingram to me all comes down to how his body fills out. If he can continue to gain weight and strength in a couple of years he can be very very good. Obviously the comparisons are there to KD, but that isn't fair on anyone. IF he is in the right situation he can be an all-star some day.

I think Okafor should be in this discussion too. He had more ROY votes than Winslow did. But being stuck in basketball purgatory, combined with injuries, and his off-court issues kept him from getting positive headlines. I think Winslow will end up being the better pro because his weakness (jump shooting) is easier to fix than Okafor's (defense). Winslow has a potential career arch like that of Kwahi Leonard or Jimmy Butler who were both solid defenders and bad shooters early on.

I would rank their NBA careers in this order:
1. Jabari - still think he could be a superstar
2. Ingram - has the highest ceiling
3. Winslow - lowest ceiling but highest floor
4. Okafor - depends on his defense
