Sounds like walk-on candidate which remember folks college is far more costly than 20 yrs ago. Hard to turn down scholly unless you are loaded.

Not sure how you can call a walk on candidate a huge loss.

Not sure how you can term a walk-on candidate that isn't at a position of need as a huge loss. I suspect he may have been a nice addition to the walk on class but he was unlikely to ever receive an offer.
