I caught some of the Miami game today before UK came on. Had to laugh at the terrible teams in the ACC. 6-21 Miami and they faced 12-15 Virginia Tech.

As I recall he’s considered primarily a recruiter, maybe it will hurt Duke’s recruiting some?
He was considered that because he can't coach/is a major disappointment regarding player development. The Lucas name from his family got him a rep he doesn't possess in terms of player development and Duke moving on from him is going to strengthen them. We'll see who they hire but I'd assume their recruiting will improve. Nobody they've gotten while he's been there is a result of him being a strong recruiter. The kids they landed they'd have landed if Wojo was still on their Staff. LOL

Curious what they pay him starting out as a first time head coach at an ACC school like Miami.

He has never ran a program before, there are really good coaches that would do well at Miami. I doubt this is true.

Lucas is one of those guys everyone wants, but I still can't figure out exactly why. I know he's well connected to the AU scene in Texas, but it seems like it goes deeper than that. Did he gather compromising photos of AU coaches over the years having affairs with the school secretaries?

Dude has almost no personality (if you listen to interviews).

Acc is so bad, and on top of that Duke caught a break with only having to play Clemson and Louisville once in regular season.

So basically the Lane Kiffin in the basketball world.

I see Lucas more as Josh Pastner like--the "prodigy" who doesn't really do ****. Kiffin has been an elite recruiter his entire time in CFB--USC/Bama/Ole Miss. He's innovative offensively as well. Pastner was touted as this elite recruiter/coach since he was in HS and walked on to Arizona. Was a complete flop in all aspects. Duke may win the NC this year but it'll be due to program's overall change and nothing Lucas contributed.

Remember when Andrew Slater put out the Shaq/Kobe hype for Lucas/Scheyer when he went to Duke? Said you better get Duke now because.....well it was completely underwhelming. Rachel Baker coming from Nike has been a far better hire for Scheyer/Duke and then the move to get Grant Hill to head up USA Basketball to keep the stranglehold they have over that has greatly helped. As a Lakers fan-I appreciate that they hired JJ Redick as well. Helped them get Luka--as Duke alum Adam Silver always apt to help a a Duke player get moved to a better situation or their alums get deals to help their franchises (Dunleavy getting Butler in Golden State as well as Redick with Luka in LA). LOL

Might take the Boozer Twins with him to Miami. Carlos lives in Miami and it came down to Duke and Miami.

WOULDNT BE SURPRISED IF HE CAME AFTER OUR ASSISTANTS HART & BROOKS
I don’t think that to be the case at all. Scheyer has done a good job selling the reputation of the program and what it has accomplished.

I can’t believe they would take a chance like that honestly. They aren’t a powerhouse but they have tons of NIL and the ACC is ripe to be a top 3-4 team easy right now.
I think Miami is giving him a chance based on the Lucas name and their ties, imo.

Couldn't play much either.
One of the more overrated McDonald's AA's.

I could see that. Does John still do his basketball camps? I haven’t heard about them in a long while if so. Maybe he still has ties with Nike or something.

If it strengthens that’s even worse because they are already getting who they want.

If he gets that job he won’t be able to hide behind the assistant tag anymore. He’s either the greatest or he’s coasted off his name or ties.
