A "mutual decision." Not exactly fired...just not retained. Spavital was once thought of as an up and comer but Sumlin drug him down too. I'm telling you, Sumlin will be gone after next year.

Who is in the fastest freefall, Sumlin or Manziel?

What is funny about the T A&M OC situation, just like us one of their transferring quarterbacks took the time to go on social media & cheer on the fired OC seemingly at the expense of the head coach. Guess we arent the only ones to deal with OC's creating a bad disruptive situation, and qbs who haven't the ability to be professional or respectful as they run away.

So, will Noel M make a difference for Sumlin? A&M has been ranked high in the past 3 or so recruiting rankings. How has that translated to the field?

I guess I'm not sold on why Sumlin is on the hot seat?

1. He's had more success at AM than the previous few coaches ever had (Mike Sherman, Franchione, Slocum had similar results).

Wins by year (and Sumlin has had to deal with being in SEC West which has been full of good teams than Sherman, Franchione, Slocum etc,,never had to deal with)

11 wins
9 wins
8 wins
8 wins

2. His recruiting has been top 10 the past 3 years (granted he is decimating them by running off 5* QBs :flushed:) but there is still a bunch of talent on that roster due to him.

3. His biggest weakness as a coach to me was always his defensive approach. But he's hired John Chavis as his DC. And that guy has been tremendous DC at UT and LSU....I'd imagine his probability to improve the Texas AM defense will be pretty high going forward.

I'd love to see Sumlin available if UK were to need to make a run at a coach soon...he's done a ton more good than bad early in his career.

I think the problem is Chavis made tremendous year over year improvement in their defense and the offense fell off steeply. Some of the advanced metrics had the A&M defense going from outside the top 100 in 2014 to top 15 in 2015. For its part, the offense went from top 15 in 2014 to outside the top 80 in 2015.

On the other hand, they'll be really good next season if last year's offensive production was an aberration.

I'm not sure we can say Aggies are free falling or that Sumlin is totally to blame...

I think what is happening is that they are regressing back to the mean...

They came into the SEC firing with a Heisman QB and a prolific offense...The QB left, and opposing teams figured out the offense...

Did any one really believe they were going to be competing with Bama and win 11 games a year regularly?

Aggies were a middle of the road B12 team with no serious history or tradition...and they're going to run the show in the SEC west?...no...

they had a couple good years with a once in a generation Heisman QB...

they're essentially a cocky hot shot new kid who came in and cut line...now the big boys who have been around are now saying "nah...get back..."

They recruited in such a way that would make believers. See Ole Miss. Should we believe Freeze is creating a team that will compete year in and year out in the SEC West?
