Could've come to UK as the OC a couple years ago. Hindsight is 20/20.

Oh well. Is he that bad at playcalling that he couldn't find another OC position or is there another reason he took a demotion?

Richt has said he is going to be hands on with QB coaching and would like to call plays again, hired Thomas Brown, UGA's RB coach and named him CoOC. No spot for Coley, so I am guessing he thought WR coach beat not having a job.

True, but surely there was a spot for an OC somewhere. Coley can work his way back up, but it's just odd to me that he would accept a demotion.

My bet is he would have been taking an OC spot at a place like USF or UCF, and instead chose to go position coach in a P5 conference. He didn't really light the world on fire at Miami.

Not unusual to me. Look at the various staffs around college football and you will see former OC's , DC's and even head coaches on various staffs just being position coaches.

I think Buh used to be a DC and now he is coaching LB's. Joker was an OC and a head coach and went to Florida to wide recievers. Happens all the time.

I agree with you, I think it was a good hire by Smart, gives us a guy to recruit south Florida and he is a WR coach. Lets be honest RB and WR coaches are hired mostly for the recruiting ability. Our RB hire was a founding memeber of the minority coaching association in the state of Georgia, he is known statewide, he will do well recruiting in the state, especially in the metro area where 80% of the Georgia kids are. Looks like Beamer Jr. may be our TE/special teams coordinator coach, so that leaves only the DC left.

But I agree Coley was a surprise hire.

I would have liked to have kept Pruitt too, but Pruitt has a bit of an abrasive personality and wouldn't have been very receptive of Smart's input on how to run a defense and he chose not to keep him or not to attempt to keep him. As a first year head coach that was probably a smart move. Saban needed to replace his connection in Georgia so Pruitt was a natural and Saban might be able to keep him in line. It was reported Pruitt had several verbal confrontations with other staff members on the practice field that came very close to physical confrontations, that was reported by multiple sources. Great defensive mind, great recruiter just doesn't play well with others.

Now back to Elliot, what position does he coach? We still need a LB coach and have yet to name a DC. DC will likely be in name only for a couple to three years if Smart is successful, if not they will all be looking for work again I guess.

I was being a bit facetious... Eliot is our DC.... He was overshadowed by our OC/Dawson.... Damn, there I go again!
I would say... "good luck" to you but at UGA luck doesn't play a role in success........
