12 actually and yes I know that without looking. And this year Penn St had 15 of the 30 world team spots at u20, U23 and SR this year I believe. The point was it's the way the fans act that causes the nation to hate on a team not the staff or the results on the mat.
Then again, I've read some just plain hate Carl regardless of a few fans' attitudes.

its way early and its not like Ryder was blown out. He was in some close matches with some national contenders right out the gate! Ryder will continue to get better... and i would still not be shocked if he found a way to AA this season!
He lost 3 of 4 matches and had a grand total of zero takedowns for the weekend. What exactly does it take to sound alarm bells?

I really hope we get to see Jax vs Blaze on the big stage at NCAA’s. Such a great matchup of styles. Jax thrives on creating chaos and scrambles and Marcus is one of the best at not allowing that to happen. Jax had definitely jumped levels this past year. That said, Blaze is so damn hard to score on. I haven’t seen anyone with his baseline defense at his age. I’m obviously biased but I just think elite defense usually wins out in these matchups. The DT vs Dake matches are a prime example. I really do love Jax though. Out of every guy that has went somewhere else Jax is the one that I really wish had come to PSU. I hope we get 4 years of this matchup but I see Jax moving up soon.

I will tell you this, next year (26/27) we lose Levi and gain Ono. We will be a terror once again.

However (27/28)? It's on, and anyone who doesn't think so is smoking something.

Oky State is loaded with elite top 4 or above guys, in particular:

Vega
Jax
Robideau
Lockett

Ross (maybe)

I am not sure I would put the Raneys, and Merrill quite at at that level. AA probably!

I think I'll leave 184 off the list. I have leaned my lesson.
Yeah but we have Cael enough said

Actually, I'm pretty sure it's the results that causes the hate. Nobody hates a loser. 99% of fans don't know squat about another team's fanbase. I hated Nebraska of the 70s - 90s solely because of their success. But their fans were among the most civil and welcoming out there, and there was truly nothing to hate about coach Osborne. And I hated Miami during their heyday of the 80s because they were arrogant winners. It's the same with folks who hated Duke basketball -- it's damn near impossible to hate on Coach K (unless you already hate the program), but their success was maddening for non-fans.

There may be some Penn State wrestling fans who act cocky and superior, and that certainly doesn't help with outsiders' perception of us, but it's still the nonstop, overwhelming success that causes other fans to hate on PSU.

and now with the internet, it only take a couple of comments on social media to represent 'everyone' or the majority :)....or so those that live on it believe

PSU 2028
125 Luke
133 Blaze
141 Ono assuming 2nd year
149 Davis if not stud recruit
157 Kasak
165 PJ
174 James, Henckel
184 Welsh
197 Barr
Hwt Mirasola

One helluva lot of points, AAs and champions listed above. Just guessing, but I bet PSU will be fine in 2028 NCAAs.
Blaze won't be 133 in 2028 he will be 141 for Olympic year

Does anyone else worry that Ono will only have 1-2 years of practice experience wrestling from top and bottom?

I don’t think he’ll be great on top, but who’s going to keep him from exploding off bottom.

In neutral with 3 point take downs, he’ll be blowing matches wide open like Kyle Snyder did, but quicker given the extra point for a TD

More likely

125 Sidun/Desmond
133 Luke
141 Blaze
149 Ono (if second year)/Davis/someone else

I don't think Luke will be a career 125, especially with Sidun coming up from behind.

My biggest worry with Ono is he changes his mind while waiting for next year. There have to be detractors whispering in his ear constantly to either come home or focus on Freestyle 100%. He is in a great place today mentally, health and otherwise, but two years is a long time. Until then, I am salivating to see him in an open somewhere, it will be amazing.

He can choose neutral every time. Who's gonna take him down when Lee and Arujau couldn't?

That leaves if someone thinks to take top and is good enough to make that work. 133-141 has some good riders but no Lizaks (other than Nagao). So maybe he gives up a RT point that doesn't matter.

Per a genius on Intermat board:

“Ono might have the advantage on their feet, but after those 3 points, Vega dominates on the mat.”

The word “might” is woefully inadequate

Sidun coming up from behind???

Ono is a lifer 133 in folk. He'll likely never be big enough for 141/65 kg.

I don't see him being ridden by anyone. Takedown, let up takedown let up,repeat a few more times. and who knows, like kids,he might enjoy cradles, arm bars and tilts like new toys. can't wait to see his approach to folk style.
