He played great against Gonzaga so I’m not gonna get too worried over his performance over a team that it’s hard to get up for.
I hear you. But he was 31.6% coming into this game. So it’s not simply a matter of what he’s done lately. He’s been shooting poorly throughout the season.

If any dude on this team shoots the ball 11 times from deep it should be Brea.

I’m more concerned about his Defense and turnovers. He made some lackadaisical turnovers tonight. I would say that he needs to take 3’s when they’re open. He take too many with a defender all over him.
Yeah, you’re right, it is all problematic. He and Brea are really poor defenders.

But Robinson plays more minutes and takes more shots than anyone on the team. Pope basically treats him as the engine that makes the whole thing go but the issue is he’s not a very strong engine.

I’m hoping that we have a coach that likes to be efficient. JR has to be one of the most inefficient high-usage players in all of college basketball at the moment.
It gives me tons of confidence in you as a poster that you:

1. Joined this message board during one of the most tumultuous eras in UK history and...
2. Have been pretty critical of Pope and the team ever since you joined.

Bodes well for you as an uplifting poster with pure intentions.

That fade away three in the corner when we were up 18 towards the end of the game is the ones I hate! He missed bad and it led to a made three on the other end. We didn’t need threes at that point of the game.
Yeah, but that's what we are, if it goes in, we say it was a great shot.

But, we have seen opponents get runouts on missed dunk attempts too, it's not just missed threes that cause runouts.

It is what it is, we're a 3 point shooting team, I just hope we get back to shooting it at a respectable percentage, like soon.

Baller Cal sock...confirmed.
If you read the original post as “bashing players” then I don’t know what to tell you. The rest of us are having a discussion about actual statistics and how we have our most inefficient offensive player taking the most shots. Do you think that’s a good idea?

In fairness the two he hot back to back during the 12-0 that included 4 straight threes, broke the game open and for all intents and purposes buried Crest University.

You’re going to think whatever you’re going to think regarding my join date and criticism. I can’t change that.

But this is a legitimate concern. Jaxson Robinson is inefficient. Aside from the stretch where he hit back to back threes, he killed us on both ends of the court tonight. he’s being treated by our coach like an NBA superstar as he has the longest leash on the team and can take as many shots as he wants whether they’re good shots or not.

I want both Pope and Robinson to succeed. I feel like I’m pointing out very obvious things and a couple of you in this thread cannot bring yourselves to see reality.

29% is just not going to cut it from this point forward. Robinson is big enough to get where he wants to in the paint, so why should he jack up so many 3's when he's stone cold????

I also wonder why Carr RARELY shoots 3's??? I thought he was a stretch 4. I am tickled to death with how dominant he;s been in the paint, but I am baffled with how he turns down those open looks from 3.

Certainly is weird how Carr is reluctant. He has only taken 14 3’s and made 5.

I’m not sure that there’s another player in America who has attempted 68 three-point shots and only hit on 29% of them. It just doesn’t make sense to give any player who is hitting at this clip the green light to fire up all of these shots.

Carr (and he honestly isn't the only one) does turn down a lot of open threes. I bet he has turned more threes down than he's shot. Luckily it hasn't really hurt us too bad as he has played well enough in the paint to kind of counter it. He should shoot at least 3 or 4 a game though IMO.

That is a lot of attempts to shoot sub 30%.

He has to do better.

I'm sure all of those shots are the result of Coach Pope's confidence in Robinson. Hopefully when Butler returns, he will start making more of those shots.

And if he doesn’t, Pope has to find a way to get more efficient players more shots. Just sort of bothered by the fact that it’s gone on this long already, and Robinson’s shot volume and shot selection don’t seem to be addressed.

Playing great and 3 pt % are two completely separate things. Love how he played Saturday, but the guy is a very mediocre 3 pt shooter so far this season. Hope he can turn it around but it’s not looking great so far.

Jaxon will definitely benefit from Butler coming back, he’s a much better shooter when he’s not having to handle the ball!
Is he though? He has shot poorly from 3 all year and only played point the past two games. I think it’s more of a problem than “he just shoots worse when he’s running point”.

Yes, he’s never actually been a great three-point shooter. Ever. He shot at 35.4% last year, which is the best that he ever shot it.

To put things into perspective, he is shooting just a tad better than DJ Wagner did last year. Wagner was 29.2% on 96 attempts. And I don’t think anyone on this board was urging Wagner to shoot more threes.

And he's on pace for 200 attempts if my drunken math is right.

Against Gonzaga he had a 5-0 a:t. Robinson is gonna show up in big games. That’s what he’s shown. Tonight the game had zero rythmn we were losing in the second half.

What's your suggestion Coach?
