Is it just me or does it appear that Jay Bilas goes out of his way to not speak highly of Duke? The Tar Holes recently got spanked by Miami, then barely won at home against Pitt but during Florida and Kentucky game, he had the Holes as a 1 seed. I realize Duke has had some struggles this year but last 2 games and final 5 against Wake, they're starting to play better, but it seems like he doesn't like complimenting Duke. You know Jay Williams played for Duke, and he's proud of that but it's like he doesn't want anyone knowing he played there as well. Look I know he's smart but he really annoys me. Am I only one that can't stand listening to him anymore?

No one likes Jay Bilas, more than Jay Bilas.
He's pretty excited about shoes too. So, basically, everyone loves him!
Bilas loves to hear himself talk, and will go out of his way to pump up other teams to not come across as a "homer", which can be annoying at times. That being said, I don't have a problem with him having the current top team, in the best conference, as a #1 seed. In my opinion, the team that wins the ACC this year is deserving of a #1 seed... currently the Holes have that honor.
He played with an edge while at Duke. He proudly boasted his Duke education in his career. Maybe he doesn't like the one and done character of these newest teams? Maybe he just likes being talked about? He's still a Dukie in my book. I can always hit mute when he starts hyperanalyzing foul calls.
By far my least fav blue devil ever. Not even close. I mute and listen to Bob Harris when he has our games.

Mine too! Sometimes I tell myself he never played for Duke! Now I could listen to Grant Hill on CBS all day long. I like his commentary.

Look at who these two work for and you'll see the real problem.
He railed on KY pretty good last night, but I also thought the UNC reference as a 1 seed was funny. They may end up being a 1, but they are having plenty of struggles this year as well. They just managed to squeak out the Clemson and Pitt games or they would look completely different. IMO, Louisville is playing the best in the ACC by far.
Thats probably the one area I disagree w/Sky. I don't think Bilas touches Grant Hill's work as an unbiased observer in basketball commentary. Its amazing as big a star as Grant was, he never upstages the game. Bilas by the same token constantly feels the need to make himself bigger than the game.
I think fact Bilas is on some NCAA rules committee (officials,etc) this year, has made him EVEN WORSE if thats possible.I heard Bilas say he thought the Grayson suspension should have been longer, and then standing up proudly for Bill Self yesterday in the wake of Kansas troubles, "I believe in Roy Williams," (UNC scandal comments couple years ago).....No Mac (OP), its not just you my friend-

Its quiet possible the ACC regular season champion could end up with 5 ACC losses and Its hard to see that team as a number one seed if they lose that many. It's a moot point if they only lose 2 or 3 or though.
I am not in that camp, and think a great deal of our membership here are likewise not subscribers to said theory. I think Grant, Jimmy Spanarkel, G-man, etc all do exceptional work, and CLEARLY DO NOT "slobber all over us."

I honestly believe that he thinks if he raves on Duke that he will be labeled a Duke homer like they have done with Vitale. For some reason you can rave about other players on different teams,,,,,,,,,except Duke.
G-Man is by far my fav Duke announcer I like grant too but he doesn't do it enough for college to count but both of them kill the jays and that station. I really hope fox and cbs take over sports programming so much better and no agendas
I think this is exactly it. This and wanting to get attention in order to advance his career (like any savvy journalist, commentator, announcer, etc). I think Jason Williams is also in the same boat but I think I've heard more compliments from him about Duke than from Bilas. But that could be because Bilas also has to worry about the white Duke player syndrome which affects very good basketball players at Duke that happen to be white. The world has decided to hate those people, even before they actually attend Duke as a freshman.
When I think about it, I don't really remember hearing Bilas talk positively about Duke unless it's in a documentary about Duke/Duke players (like in the Laettner doc) or if it's soon after Duke has won a championship. It would be interesting to see what Bilas said during the 2014-15 season and then hear his comments in the days after we won the title.
We dont have to worry about him when its a CBS game thankfully. Unfortunately Capt Ego is on the call tonite.....
