What I love is that everyone will be doubting Scheyer all summer long. The narratives already started emerging last night that Jonny Boy, K's fair-haired child, choked the game away.
Myself, and a couple others here, tried to remind people that Scheyer was already being doubted before Flagg came along and relieved some pressure. Flagg just made us all forget. This certainly doesn't help Scheyer. This is one of those nasty beats. This is one of those loses that falls squarely on the coach.

Definitely hurts Scheyer since this was basically a dream team and duke's tourney to lose once they made it to the Final Four.

Let's hope they keep Scheyer around for a long, long time. 😊

The difference between K and Scheyer is that K had those same questions about him until 91

The difference is K created a beast and he’s going to have a Rupp sized shadow over that program for all time and Scheyer can’t afford too many fups like that and last long. Different animal now
Very good point. You can probably throw IU in there with Knight's shadow.

Scheyer is not a very good coach. He will only go as far as his talent can take him. He might eventually “luck” into a title due to all the talent the Duke brand brings in. He isn’t going to outsmart very many other coaches, though.

Seth on the other hand said that Cal was a really good coach and that… sorry this is not about my good buddy John Calipari?

Just get ready for ESPN to fly that duke flag again next year with the Boozer twins coming in.

They were worse this year than they were in 18/19 when Zion was there. They celebrated duke all year and now they have to eat it. But they won't learn their lesson.

I actually think this team was better than that Zion team. That team struggled to shoot and they really had too much unbalanced talent. Great wings and forwards.. but pretty meh on PG and Center as I recall.

Im curious about who may come back for them.. but realistically, they should lose Flagg, Maluach and Kon.. and honestly.. its going to be hard to replace all 3. They were all pretty great as freshman for their position. Others will graduate and maybe transfer. Their incoming class looks great, but will they all pan put like this class did, in their freshman year? Thats doubtful for any team. They also will lpse Sion James and Mason Gillis.

Idk, I think this was a perfect year to grab a title for them. ACC was at an all time low, their recruits were basically elite early on, perfect role players and defenders. Next year will not be as easy.

Flagg was a generational talent. The overall makeup of the team was fantastic - going to be difficult to replicate that anytime soon.

Duke hatred is just as good for ESPN as Duke love. Because it puts eyeballs on the screen.

Did anyone see the "Largest Comeback Win (Final Four)" graphic on ESPN from last night? Someone might have posted in another thread, but this was crazy. It had Kentucky (not UK) coming back against UNC in 2022 from 16 down. I racked my brain for about 5 seconds to thing about what this was, and then I realized that they meant Kansas. What a bunch of dumberds.

All time choke job. Really something to behold.

This is like a where were you when JFK was shot or the twin towers were hit type moment for CBB.

Zion and Barrett were so dynamic, that team should have won it, but it seemed like Zion's knee issue derailed them. They weren't the same after that.

But yeah, this duke team was much more complete. It turned into a monster the last month or so. I had my doubts about them, because the competition was a joke, but then they destroyed Alabama and didn't appear to break a sweat.

Scheyer "Calipari'd" this one away for sure and I'm glad he did. The sadness on Jay Will's face is enough to make me laugh.

He pissed me off in November before and during the UK vs Duke game. He had it all planned out to celebrate a duke victory and he didn't have a backup plan, so he had to stick with it. Then he had the gall to explain to UK fans how we should understand that the media is going to celebrate Cooper Flagg, because he's so great.

Eat it, Jay, eat it all.

I just want to say, the Duke UNC hatred is BS. Kenny was disappointed not elated. When Carolina was coming back on Ole Miss, they showed the crowd and some cheering for UNC had on Duke gear.
Live in the state from 2017-2021. This is exactly right. Half the time on game days the bars wouldn’t even have the games on outside of the triangle area (chapel hill/Raliegh/Durham). The “rivalry” is completely media propaganda driven bc it’s 2 good basketball programs in the same state with a heavy alumni presence in the media….but the passion and hate isn’t there

This is crazy

Yep the other stats did them in. Like allowing Houston to rebound 47% of their misses.

You can make up for a lower FG% if you are getting up more shots overall lol.

Houston shooting 45% from 3 didn't hurt either.

Houston put up 1.15 points per possession vs Duke's defense. It was Duke's 5th worst game of the season on defense.
