Don't you have to win a tournament within the last year to play? Or being exempted for several years for winning one of the majors. And, lifetime exemption for winning the Masters. Take it he didn't win and didn't qualify.

Was fortunate enough years ago to be able to go to Augusta Nat'l a few times. Not during the tournament. A few members were there but not many. Not sure if the course was open for play for the members or not..but it was very quiet. Beautiful place.

To qualify for The Masters:
  • Masters Tournament Champions (Lifetime)
  • US Open Champions (Honorary, non-competing after 5 years)
  • Wear a crotch-less gimp suit and be the Lucky Pierre in a 3-way with Billy Payne and Fred Ridley
  • British Open Champions (Honorary, non-competing after 5 years)
Might explain why the field was so small this year.

I thought they did away with the lifetime exemption for winning the Masters a few years ago due to Billy Casper coming back every year, requiring a cart, slow play, and shooting in the 90's.
