JEDRICK WILLS (OL): The five-star offensive lineman from Lafayette High School is the highest-rated high school football player from Lexington during the era of online recruiting rankings and UK’s No. 1 priority for the class of 2017. Wills — a teammate of UK commitments Landon Young and Walker Wood — also has scholarship offers from Alabama, Florida State, Notre Dame and Ohio State, but Kentucky looks to have a very good shot at his commitment. Rivals.com ranks him as the No. 13 overall player in the class of 2017.

This most important recruit since Tim Couch! A must get! In the SEC IT STARTS with the offensive line! Everyone says D- line is most important, however if you look at the NFL that is also their #1 priority other than QB! If we land him it will be a GIANT step for the program With other commitments who are proving against completion in camps to be stellar! Speaking of Jackson and Young! You build an offensive line and QB's will come along with top running backs!

Is he projected at Left Tackle or right? I believe that Young is projected as a RT. Just curious

My guess is that UK best show significant improvement in 2016 to land him & thus wouldn't expect anything + for UK till November or even later.

My guess as well. Frankly, Young may be better and is the most important recruit to date, but because he committed so early in the process it took a lot of the luster off his importance. My guess is this kid is going to enjoy the process and will be watching to see what progress is made. I have no doubts he commits if KY looks better.

If my memory is correct (and I'm 99.5% sure that it is), Antonio Hall (from Canton, OH) was the #1 OT & a 5 star recruit in the 2000 class, according to Rivals. Unless Landon Young gets a bump, Willis could become the UK's highest rated recruit (not just OL) since Antonio Hall. IMHO, Landon Young has more upside potential than Hall did and Willis is every bit as good. I just hope that Willis commits to UK early and then helps UK to land other highly rated commits.

* Edit - Rivals only keeps records going back to 2002. However, the 247 composite ranked Antonio Hall as the #3 OT, #12 overall player & a 5 star recruit in the 2000 class.

Young is projected at OT.....with Leavitt here he will probably take the RT spot or back-up either for the first yr or so. Willis is strictly a OG.

You may be correct & several others think that as well. However, IMHO, I think that Young is a prototypical LT & Leavitt is more of a RT. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out next fall.

I just think Leavitt being older, stronger, more experienced, left-handed, has the edge at LT. I think Young will take over the LT in due time.

I don't know who UK's OL coach is, but like all the elite kids he is looking at college as a stepping stone to the NFL. If UK's OL coach has a reputation of getting kids ready in 3 years for the NFL UK is almost certainly his college destination, if not then UK will have to fight like mad to keep him home. But he may be one of the few elite kids who doesn't really factor that in his decision.

Does anybody if he or his family are big UK fans? ...surely having two of his team mates/classmates at UK can't hurt

Are you talking about Wills? I thought he was a LT all the way

"Are you talking about Wills?"
Yes, my bad. I need to learn to read & spell better.

"I thought he was a LT all the way"
I think that Young will end up @ LT (partly because of his long frame), but that is just my guess. Most recruiting services do project Willis as a tackle & he appears to be athletic enough to play either tackle spot. However, his size may be better suited @ guard. With that said, I would guess that Willis does play tackle, if he comes to UK, but that is just a guess. Some think guard. Only time will tell.

That is definitely a possibility & it does makes sense. Several very astute posters (including you) believe that Leavitt will be the LT.

Landon will probably play RT this year and move to LT later on. Jedrick is being recruited as an OT AFAIK. If possible I'd like to see us take 3 OT. Jedrick, Thayer, and Toryque Bateman.

In the end I believe Wills is a Cat...there's just too much going for us not to get him. He's in freakin Lexington, this kid is staying home and cementing a dominant line for the next 3-4 years.

My hope is to see us improve enough to make a bowl game in 2016 and then really have a special year in 2017 with a RS Junior Barker and a team full of talent and experience. 2017 is going to be a fun year for the Cats, assuming we make the needed progress this year.
