All the momentum for Wills is going Bama's way right now. One Bama guy even said he expects a Wills commitment within the next few weeks. Even though Wills is one of the top OTs in the country, not being able to keep a Lexington guy at UK is a huge blow IMO especially with the new facility updates. Even if it is to Bama, it'll be tough to swallow this and Harris if it does happen. The only good thing if it were to happen, would be that it is occurring so early. Gives the staff time to keep recruiting him and other guys instead of him dragging it out like Harris did. I hope this isn't true.

You think this would happen if we were a pretty good team, say along the lines of Arkansas?

Maybe. Alabama has tapped a lot of Arkansas homegrown talent that Arky would have loved to have had.

UK would not be making history in this case.

I'm not worried about it.

First of all, he's a great talent, but won't kill us if he spurns us (especially this early).

Second, we would have a good chance at landing him if we have as good a season as I think we will.

Third, I've heard from college scouts that Wills is somewhat lazy and takes most plays off. I don't know if there's any validity to this, but if true, he could have a higher chance of sinking at the D-1 level before he gets a fire lit under his ***. I'm not sure if there's enough or will be enough talent at OT to make him really push himself. He might honestly be better off at Bama for this reason alone.

I've never gotten the vibe that he's in to UK and whiffing on him wouldn't surprise me one bit. I trust we'll find someone else and move on just like we have in the past.

For the record, that is what we are hearing as well. Bama is thinking they are going to sign Leatherwood, a 5* on the other site, Wilson, Wills and a JUCO in this class, all 5* OTs. This is to go alone with already having a 5* frosh starting at one OT this fall. That's insane.

I don't think our coaches have been pushing hard for him. I think they know he wanted Bama so we moved on. At least he's not stringing us along. Love to get him but I don't think we will.

Like hell we're moving on. You follow the same plan as with Harris. You stay on him until the bitter end. It may go as bad as the Harris situation did but under no circumstance do you concede a player of his caliber in your back yard.

That's not good to hear. We need him bad. Bookend SEC caliber OTs for the next 4 years would be one of the few things that would allow us to compete in the SEC.

Until we can lock up the top in-state prospects and keep them at home, we're never going to reach the level we want to be at. This team MUST start winning games so that the few local stud 5 star recruits we produce will WANT to come here.

Landon Young, Drew Barker, Drake Jackson, Matt Elam, Davonte Robinson all had major offers and where were they from? Exactly.

.

Unless you happened to miss it the first time around, I was talking about the rare 5 star talent that this state manages to produce. More often than not, we lose those guys to out of state schools. Out of those 5 guys you named, only ONE of them was a 5 star talent....Landon Young.

On the other hand, just in recent years, we've managed to lose out on Lamar Dawson, Damien Harris and now it is looking ever more likely that we are going to lose Jedrick Wills too. These are talented guys we need to keep at home. They can help our program tremendously! I think we can do that if we start winning more games. Dawson, Harris and Wills all seem to have one thing in common...they are local kids that don't seem to have any genuine interest in the hometown program. However, if we start winning more games, going to bowls and have some sustained success, I think we finally start to become a more appealing destination for kids like that.

So just how is wanting to win more games so we can get more good recruits and win even more games considered "trolling"? Did you just misinterpret my post or are you really as much of a bonehead as your angry little reply indicates?

You contradicted your whole previous post.

You said we need to start hauling in all the top prospects in the state and we have in the Stoops Era besides ONE OTHER GUY, Harris. Lamar Dawson was apart of the 2011 recruiting class, Joker's second year so don't put him on Stoops.. Stoops wasn't even here.

And you said "This team MUST start winning games so that the few local stud 5 star recruits we produce will WANT to come here" and they have as you said Landon Young.

Edit And as far as Wills is concerned. It's not February 3rd yet.

Violence is usually counterproductive, besides do you know this man, he may be the incredible hulk and not that old. Funny you should talk about meds, some pretty wild statements there.

I don't think Dawson was a five star, but highly rated, I would be curious as to where he was drafted, if he was. Certainly not much about him around here, which is fine with me.

I agree... I don't recall Dawson was a five star...

Micah Johnson was. We got him and we were terrible. Micah Jones was. We got him and we were terrible.

We got Landon Young. Damien Harris was never coming and played us. Wills just doesn't seem all that interested. That's ok... We will get others

Has less to do with "winning this year" and more to do with the individual kids

How did his career at USC go?
Injury riddled. They gave him the #55 jersey and everything, but he had 2 knee injuries and I think a broken rib or clavicle, all by his junior year. Then, last year, he had a season-ending shoulder injury. Kid was made of Legos, apparently. He signed in the 2011 class and just finished up last season as a RS Sr. with 137 career tackles (7.5 for losses, with 2.5 sack), 4 deflections and 2 interceptions in 20 career starts. Very meh.

I think it is true that we do have to get these top in state kids. We've by in large done a great job of it these past several years under Stoops. I think that we needed Harris as a feather in our hat, but he wasn't really an important recruit overall. Wills, IMO, is. In order to be successful in big time college football you have to be able to open running lanes and protect the quarterback. Kentucky has always struggled on the offensive and defensive lines, and getting in big time recruits that are huge offensive line prospects are what will change the program. It is always great to get a big time quarterback or a star running back, and those guys are the flair, but guys like Wills are who we really have to have. Even more so considering that Wills is a tackle prospect, and that has almost always been the hardest position for UK to fill.

Recruit the girlfriend. This is the most effective way to recruit 18 year old boys.
Nah man, family is better. 17 & 18 yr old boys don't pick out girls & plan on sticking with them through 22, that is silly.

FWIW the rumor I heard is that Wills dropped UK because so many posters on this thread insisted on calling him WILLIS. keep it in the Liar please.
