So is Jenni a OU or OSU fan? Don't know what the hell it is but I think she is really hot. Guess maybe I am just a sucker for women that are into sports.

Neither, both programs loathe her equally.

Hot?

Yeah, I'd prolly do her. However, I'd do it angrily.

Carlson is from Kansas and I think she went to KU. Can't get my mind around you thinking she's "hot" with all the other more attractive women sports personalities to choose from, but whatever makes your boat float is okay, I don't think she is a fan of either OU or OSU. She's definitely not a fan favorite.

I think she tries to just be a journalist, not a fan. She gets an undeserved bad wrap in my opinion. She brings a little feminism to sports journalism and does alright pieces on players' backgrounds and history .
Oklahomans expect anyone writing for the Oklahoman to be an Oklahoma fan. Constantly reading too far into words and intentions.

Yeah, hot may be too strong but definetly cute in a hard to explain way. Maybe it's because she seems to have a little attitude but not in a bitchy way. Just a gut feeling she might be a wild child.

I agree with this. John Hoover's Tulsa World columns get Sooner fans' blood boiling, but I enjoy them. Like most message board posts, I don't alway agree, but everyone has an opinion that I can appreciate and agree with occasionally. Hoover writes it as he sees it and gets under Bob's skin a lot, but that doesn't bother me much because I can always tell when it's BS. However, he does get it right a lot as well and brings up things that most Sooner fans are asking their selves. Jenni Carlson does too.

Hoover is about as competent as the Stoops bashing crowd. He asks inane questions about a flawed perception and when Bob rightly blows it off, Hoover keeps asking. He is like a 14 year old questioning his dad and his competence because dad will not let him drive on the freeway. Or own a handgun.

Hoover asks questions, thinking he knows what he is talking about, when he is clueless. Except he gets paid for his incompetence. Bill Connors he is not.

Carlson may contribute a little, but seems to understand less than Hoover which is hard to imagine. She is just less belligerent about it.

Plaino, I clearly understand you are one that doesn't care for anyone that gives Bob Stoops a hard time, and I agree with a lot of what you say about Hoover prodding Coach Stoops with got ya type questions. However, are you saying that John Hoover NEVER writes anything that is credible and/or relative? You are a journalist of sorts so I find it hard to believe you aren't more open minded. Maybe I didn't make myself clear. I rarely agree with Hoover, but the way he and Bob go at it doesn't get in my way of giving him credit when he is right. Everyone is right at some point. Wouldn't you agree?

On some criticism of stoops, heupel, etc. It has been deserved. Other times, its not. Pretty simple. I personally like Hoover, traber, etc. Carlson? I find her annoying lol

I can take Hoover 10x over Barry Tramel of the DO. Biggest basher of the Sooners over anyone from the TW or even the Sports Animal. I believe he thinks he is a Skip Bayless clone.

As a 57-year old, let me tell you this.
Since none of them would even look my way, I swing for the fences.
My fantasy women are young and drop-dead gorgeous.
I'm culling anyone over 24 first (Christie Brinkley and Cindy Crawford excepted).
Ha! same age....same thought process

There is a difference between asking a probing question, and asking a question that is designed to make a coach look bad. The perfect example is what I get beat up for here when defending Bob. Let's say that the strong safety busts a coverage and it allows the other team an easy score.

What Hoover wants is for Bob to either call out the player, or fall on his sword for not coaching the kid better. Bob will not point to a specific player for that screw up. That would only lead to other more stupid questions and Bob doesn't think that a college player ought to be called out for a mental or physical mistake.

Here, there are a littany of accusations when that happens. Either the player was poorly coached. Or we should have recruited a better player. Or why didn't we play his backup when a guy made a mistake like that? It is very counter productive to go into those second areas and Bob knows that. And Hoover knows it. He just doesn't care. He doesn't care if he undermines the overall program. But while he knows that Bob won't call out the college player individually, Hoover keeps heading in that direction. And he tries to make Bob looks as bad as he can make him look. If you find that worthwhile, then more power to you.

I think he's an @$$#0)3.

This isn't some politician, which BTW, he wouldn't go after if he agreed with his politics. And if he succeeds in making Bob look bad, since perception is a factor, how does that impact recruiting? If you say not at all, then you know I'd strongly disagree with you.

I don't think Bob is perfect though I get accused of that a lot. But he is a whole lot better at his job than Hoover the hack is at his. I don't know about Hoover's articles other than OU football. But I see and hear his behavior at press conferences.

I'd put it this way as it relates to your perception of how I ought to understand. I didn't consider how corrupt some basketball officials were until I started running up and down the court in a striped shirt. I understand the process that Hoover is undertaking. His being a dick, isn't necessary to write worthwhile columns. It's just who he is.

Well, Plaino, you just did exactly what you claim to dislike about some particular posters that are critical of Coach Stoops. You only pointed out the bad things about Hoover without ever acknowledging any of the good things he says about Bob and the Sooner program. That's kind of like calling the kettle black....but that's okay. I feel the same about you as I do John Hoover. While I don't agree with many of the things you say or do, I still value your input frequently. I guess that may make you angry, but it isn't my intention. I'm just more interested in what others think than you, and not concerned that recruits will shy away from coming to one of the finest schools in America because of what some half assed sportswriter from a local newspaper asks Bob Stoops. I give you one thing though. You're smarter than John Hoover regarding the history of OU football. That's what I like about you the most. Boomer!

I was hoping Longhorn Crazy was drunk when he posted that but at 9:39 am I hope he was sober. Lets hope he had been up all night and had not slept it off yet. Mickey Gilley said the girls all get prettier at closing time but I think he would agree this one would not improve much by then.

Funny anecdote circa 1971. I was 21.
I was really getting out there...stirring the cocktail of life in a rapid fashion.

I woke up one morning after 'one of those nights'...about 4 in the morning, I had to take a squirt.
I came back to my vintage Cali King size waterbed and some girl says, "Hello...are you up?"
I went over and turned on the light on the night stand...
OMG!
Dawn of the dead!

I mean, I'm sure she was a nice gal but, I could not believe that my discretion had failed me like that.
I quickly begin to form a plan.
I told her..."I have a dairy farm, and I have to be there in one hour to get it going for the day".
"Please, get dressed".

I got back around 5:30...slept until noon...

I wasn't a good person then...admitting all this stuff is part of the healing process...

Not bad. I've done something similar....I asked out a girl in HS because I'd heard she was easy. Took her to the movies, which was deserted, maybe 5 people including us. Received oral from her during the movie, then after I told her I had to pee, and walked out, got in my car, and left...

Allegedly.

Concerning the previously mentioned sports writers--Hoover is a pain in the *** who seems to think dogged obtuseness equates to insight. I have no idea how Carlson keeps her job except the bar is set so low in this state that nobody notices how bad she really is. She is a Kansan whom neither OU nor OSU fans like--not because she's biased but because she's just not a particularly astute writer. As far as I'm concerned, Berry Tramel is the best of an undistinguished lot. My only beef with him is that, in an effort to be unbiased towards OU (his alma mater), he goes too far in the opposite direction e.g. not giving OU the benefit of the doubt when that benefit may be warranted.

IMO neither OU fans nor OSU fans like Tramel and Carlson but for different reasons. Carlson because she's incompetent and Tramel because he can irritate both factions equally. In the latter case, it indicates that he might be doing something right.

I wasn't angry. remember, I live north of Dallas. I don't read Hoover's column except when some angry guy posts it here. But I do watch most of Bob's pressers, both post game and at the start of the week. And in the spring and whenever else. I've seen Hoover in action at pressers and he is an *** h**. if you defend his behavior, when he consistently attempts to embarrass Bob, then I cannot understand why you'd do that.

I'm not complaining about your behavior. But defending Hoover seems pretty strange to me. You're entitled to your strangeness. But I've seen no evidence ever in his demeanor that he is fair to Bob. And I've watched a lot of pressers.

Bill Connors never played gotccha. Ever!

He wrote stuff that real fans and supporters of the program loved to read.

I don't think Sooner fans, as much as they loved him, understood how good they had it when Bill was their primary OU info source.

Ten years after Bob is gone, most OU fans will feel the same way about him.

The OSU, Tulsa and yes, even Arkansas fans loved him. Arkansas was covered in his days. He had a protégé. The guy got out of the sports business and now writes for the "Scene" portion of the World.

I'll probably misspell his name, but the World had a great sports writer in the 80's named Randy Kriebel that moved to news department. I always enjoyed his articles.

At really top national newspapers, the best writers on most staffs are the sports writers. It was certainly the case in the DFW area for a long time. When John Kennedy was shot 52 years ago, the Times-Herald chose Blackie Sherrod to write the number two story for the paper. Blackie may have not made a lot of friends with OU fans over some of his content, but he was a brilliant writer. And the best guys in sports write with deadline pressure weekly that the news guys face maybe twice a year.

A guy like Connors could have written for any part of the newspaper and been as good as any guy on the political beat for decades. So his protege's could do that, and not deal with the ridiculous hours that really good sports writers do. Writers just don't get paid very well, unless they are in a major market. And that is going down. Newspaper income has decreased substantially with the internet. It's part of why guys like Hoover can still find a job.

Agreed. I can tell when it's BS too...if the article has OU in the topic. ;) But hey, I guess ya gotta have a following as a journalist...or a reasonable facsimile thereof. I'll bet OSU fans love him. LOL.
