We've discussed it a lot on the Blue Lot but I really feel like Wren is going to go in a different direction and hire someone that hasn't been discussed a lot.

There will be no buyout for Huggins leaving. So, they have already budgeted in the athletic funds for paying him his salary. Now that they don't, they do not have to go "cheap", they just don't need to spend more than what they were paying Huggins.

I still believe they will hire a mid-major coach, probably one that had no connection to Huggins or WVU basketball. Baker will want to put his stamp on WVU during his time here, by hiring HIS people.

$1M/yr will either get you someone mediocre or someone that will jump ship in a couple years if they are successful.

BTW…your second paragraph is the stuff that our future nightmares will be made of.

What do you think is more likely - interim hire (Elevate Eilert type of move), or hire someone outside of the program?

If the latter, an established coach (regardless of level), or a top college asst to take over?

Huggins was making around 4 million and was the 8th highest paid coach. Better get a name big enough to hold the team together. Wren Baker’s opportunity to prove himself is now.

Agreed. If you want a big time program, you better be willing to pay for it and go after the best you can get. This is a 2007 Rich Rodriguez moment to seize on continuing the momentum for a replacement. Let’s make the right choice.

According to Patty B, all John Beilen needs is a phone call to come back.

I have no problem with that. I would say Wren has been looking since day 1 of the radio incident. Knowing it was Huggins final season at WVU.

Then Huggins hangs himself by DUI and gets the resign or be fired letter. Now things are a little more somewhat in red alert status and Wren has been working hard since the phone call.

“Wren has been working hard since the phone call.”

Classic Allen and everyone says you aren’t funny.

Wren has been working hard since the radio catholic slam a month ago. The DUI just sped up the process.
I agree this clearly "seems" to be the case. Still not ideal, however they did get a little head start which is somewhat encouraging. Love what I'm hearing about interest though. Some positive signs about the "Country Roads Coalition". Didn't realize that got national attention as it should.

Early for Baker, but I like what I've seen so far overall.

Agree. The main focus is keeping those NIL deals and this team together. Second harder part is finding someone that knows what he's doing. Bigger question is can he keep these donors from leaving next year. The support for Huggins is unreal when it comes to money and recognition.

(Fruitmaster will now scurry the post for grammer and spelling errors).

Dude has a .500 record after 6 years at Youngstown State. Are we setting our sights high in mediocrity or what? Hard pass on Calhoun.

Well, you look at when he arrived and how he's improved.

Year 1 : 8-24
Year 2 : 12-20
Year 3 : 18-15
Year 4 : 15-12
Year 5 : 19-15
Year 6 : 24-10

Not great. But improvement is seen.

And it’s also at Youngstown State. I think he’s definitely improving the program.

Andy Kennedy
Mentioned since Huggins retired by force. Has been #1 on the list. Thanks for pretending you know things. It's historical.

Id be careful *****....dont want a lawyer showing up at your door with this ********.
Bring it. Pedo. Your idea of a "vacation" is visiting states where the legal age of consent is 16.

Seems interesting that a person gets upset when they are called a pedophile, but dishes it out by calling others a pedophile? Maybe this person doesn't want to draw attention to themselves because it could be violation of their parole? :joy:
