Now that Pringle's on board does UK also take Holmes?

A side note....UK's '17 recruiting class now becomes even more important for DL recruiting. UK stands to lose 3 DTs, 4 if Holmes signs, after the '17 season due to graduation. Elam, Meant, Pringle and Holmes, if he signs, will then be out of eligibility. That would leave only Cross, Looney, Dubose and Middleton. Hopefully Provitt's here by then.

Good question. Try to look through Stoops' eyes. Kentucky loses Melvin Lewis and CJ Johnson, best pair of defensive linemen we have had since Pryor, Peters, Jarmon were here. Kobe Smith just de-committed. Still don't know what we have in Elam, although I saw progress after Lewis got hurt. Meant and Middleton are legit SEC players, still developing. Still don't know what we have in Dubose, Miggins. Looney and Cross need redshirts, and should get them. From what I have seen, Holmes is a better player than Pringle, but neither is good enough to walk right into camp and unseat Elam or Middleton. Pringle can register for spring semester and practice in April. Big plus there. So assume they took Pringle because Pringle was ready to commit and enroll. Brumbaugh can work with Pringle and maybe have him ready to contribute in the fall. At this point, probably looking at Holmes, Steve Johnson, another offensive lineman, another safety, and maybe a couple more available players to fit into somewhere between 2-4 available scholarships, depending on how many current commits they think they will lose. If Holmes can enroll this month, would probably take him because quality depth in the middle of our defensive line is still a problem. But if they can pick up another quality 4 year player with that scholarship, or if Holmes can't get into school until August, then pass on Holmes and go in another direction.

Guys, I guarantee you that this staff is crossing all the t's and doting all the i's. Their not going to tell us everyone their recruiting. JR will know more then most of us, and even he will not know all of the ones their recruiting. Trust this staff. They have done a good (afraid to say great) job recruiting so far, and I believe it will even get better.

I'm not afraid to say they have done a great job of recruiting. It has been very rare in Kentucky football history for us to recruit at this high level. Recruiting is no longer the question.

I thought JR said 2 for 2

I'm really not sure, that could be Pringle. On the Hutch '15 roster Holmes is listed as a freshman. That would indicate 3 to play 2. Of course, he could've RSed too but guys are usually listed as RS if so.

JR said 2 for 2 for Pringle. It's 3 for 2 for Holmes. Also, I don't see why they wouldn't take Holmes. Different kind of defensive lineman than Pringle. I think it was a given that we would get another NG in this class after Smith enrolled at South Carolina, because having one NG after Lewis got hurt was a huge problem last season. If Holmes comes in, he would be CJ Johnson's replacement. Pass rushing defensive tackle.

Good analysis Blue. Certainly need some more beef up front in the interior and every year if critical for that IMO, but I think there we have some borderline DE/DT guys that might be able to move into that category and fill a spot if needed.

I love Miggins potential and think he's a 3 year starter at one of those spots especially if he gets bigger. With some good athletes coming in at the outside LB/DE spot what about beefing up Alvonte Bell or Kengara Daniel to fill one of those. It think they've already talked to Kengara about that. I love quicker more agile DLs to throw in on passing downs.

And I've said this for three years now but why in the world isn't Jacob Hyde a player on our D front. Coming in he was our number one recruit there and hasn't got a sniff. Think you'll see more of him in the spring and I think he'd be a big help.

So while DL is always somewhat shaky . . . not as shaky as it might first look.

Agreed, to answer my own question...I think they'd take Holmes also. Hope that happens as it would almost assures a RS for Looney and/or Cross which they need.

Thanks for the compliment, back at ya. Miggins and Bell have already been recruited over. Bell might still contribute something, but I doubt Miggins gets onto the field for serious snaps. Miggins not actually as big as advertised. The future is Elam, Meant, Middleton, Dubose, Looney, Cross, Daniel, Bannerman, Bonner, Hudson. Really like Meant, Middleton, Daniel for the future. Looney needs redshirt but can become a significant SEC player. Josh Allen is long, may grow out of linebacker and blow up into a rush end. Would like to see Allen take his redshirt in 2016 since Hatcher is a senior and Laster and Walker are also ready to play now. Hopefully Provitt makes it here. In 2015 we had no pass rush, and that killed our defense. We still need more SEC caliber edge defenders who can bring pressure on the pocket. The edge is the worry.

After watching so many late arriving Jucos excel in the second year, I think the above comments about Miggins are ill informed.

Yeah, Bell is a huge question mark in my mind. Bell was pretty highly regarded coming out of HS but essentially signed with UK after other offers dried up due to his grades. Then went JUCO and had very, very little production. UK was apparently his only offer coming out of JUCO. We'll see what happens but I don't expect much from him, still if he could get a handful of snaps he can give others a break.

3 to play 2 or 3 to play 3 are the options. Most jucos don't rs. Can't see us taking a Juco that rs'd and then played 2 years in juco. Clock is the same, 5 to play 4.

Bell supposedly lit up on the scout team. Earned praise throughout the season. Hopefully that translates into games as well.

Good to hear. I know Stoops said he was good with his hand in the dirt, but struggled to handle coverage. He evidently had a singular skill when he came. Glad the staff RSed him.

I think that Kenegra Daniel will be a big help @ DE. He's very athletic & his dad posted that he is currently 6'6 270 (*another post said currently 263, but the goal is to reach 270).

A Bell will be interesting to watch as well, especially since he still has 2 years left to play.

If Provitt signs with UK next year, he will have 3 to play 3. That would be a huge pick up.

Bell had offers from Arizona and Florida state when he signed as a juco. Bell redshirt ed because the staff spent all of spring trying to use him as an olb. They put his hand in the dirt in fall and saw the potential but thought he could redshirt because we had some depth at his spot.

I know most JUCOs sign with intent to play immediately, but hopefully Holmes signs and the DL is solid enough this fall to redshirt him. Prior to the injury, I think everyone would agree a redshirt was beneficial to Melvin Lewis (even Lewis himself).

That would help stagger some of the losses from graduation. Hopefully, Dubose develops really well at NT in 2016 & 2017 being ready to take a starting role in 2018 as a RS-Sr. Plus, maybe one of either 2016 commitments J. Cross & K. Looney, can grow into a NT as well. Cross is 6'4 300 as an incoming freshman, so it isn't unrealistic to think he could add 20 lbs.

Cross I could see but Looney no. Cross said he likes the spot CJ played and he thinks hed be best there. Dubose has the bulk now as long as he can get healed up. In 2017 it is imperative we get atleast some NTs.

Holmes is listed as a FR. Pretty sure that he is 3 to play 3.

Interesting that Holmes led his team with 8.5 sacks in 11 games. It would be good to get that kind of pressure from a big guy.

I agree. Probably the most important recruit left on the board. We could really use some more size and depth at DT plus he can get after QBs. He's quietly put together a nice offer sheet with UK, Iowa St, USF, Mizzou, UCF, WKU, Kansas, Kansas St all offering. Would love to see us close wth him, either Nelson (the former Miami de commit) or juco Henderson (but that ship may have sailed) and either former UT commit Marshal or former UNC safety committ Taylor. If you can land a combination of them that would be some quality late addition 3 stars at some positions of need

Would love for us to land Marshall- a 5.7 3* with offers from all over the SEC. Big time athlete- bring him in and then figure out a position for him. Can never have too many sec caliber athletes. Hopefully we can also seal the deal with Holmes this weekend before he goes to Mizzou next weekend
