If he leaves UNC it might cause many UNCheats to commit suicide because he is their savior.

You have to think that kids on the fence about leaving for the league have what's coming from the NCAA on their minds. It's got to be weighing on them.

Joel Berry is, at best, a good player. Without Paige and Johnson, he will be exposed as average, to good at best.

Berry was a good player as a sophomore and will be even better as a junior. However, it doesn't matter because the team we have next season will sweep unc and potentially run them out of the gym.

I think we have a better team next year for sure, but UNC will have a damn good team. Berry played well this year, he's hitting the 3 nicely now and is rock solid at the FT line. Justin Jackson looked really good at seasons end. Hicks will learn to stop fouling so much and will easily surpass Meeks. Seventh Woods is athletic as hell. They aren't going to roll over and play dead like you guys are anticipating.

UNC will be very good. But, if Berry is all of a sudden having a change of heart and doesn't return then that certainly knocks them down a peg or two.

Not sure anyone is saying UNC won't be very good, but that Berry will be exposed as average as he will be a focal part of the offense....

They announced on local tonight he is not going to test the waters now so I guess it's a done deal, he's coming back.

I'm not a unc fan by any means but they won't suck as bad as some think, and Berry is going to be the leader on that team. With Paige and Johnson gone he will elevate his game.

Other than (maybe!) Europe , transferring or dropping out of school entirely what choice did he have? This is crazy. The NBA was/is never a realistic possibility. Quinn Cook is treating the D-League like his personal playground and he can't crack the NBA. A just-completed-sophomore-season Berry can? Lulz. Regardless of what anyone thinks of his abilities , Berry is a 4-year player. No shame in that but it is what it is.

We shall see DJ; he had multiple weapons that allowed him to essentially be option 4 or 5 this past year. Next year that won't be the case, and while UNC won't be a 'bad' team by any means, opponents will be able to lock in on him, andi feel he won't be as effective.

As for him possibly thinking he's an NBA PG......I just don't see that kind of talent. Good news is that with his hair growth, he may hit 6'2 next year.

UNC will have plenty of talent and athleticism. Where they will be questionable is can Meeks and Hicks play full games. Meeks needs to get in better shape and Hicks fouls as much as Chase Jeter. Beyond that they have a freshman who while talented, nobody knows how quick he will adapt to speed and size in college. If they want to rely on Luke Mayes...well I'm ok with that. The other issue is 3 pt shooting. Berry is the only player coming back who has shown the ability to hit the 3 with any consistency and even he is at best a good outside shooter. If Williams, Britt, Pinson, Jackson, and Woods don't step up from outside a bit more teams will just bunch up in the post and make UNC a jump shooting team. Might backfire now and then, but more often than not it will let lesser talented teams hang around.

We'll, he's no Grayson Allen...

Berry, Britt, Jackson, Pinson, Hicks, and Meeks are their contributing returners. They bring in rivals' #30, 35, and 70 recruits. Roy's insistence on playing practically everyone means they'll give up some 22-4 runs w/ 4 starters on the bench and lose some early season games to the likes of Miller-Motte College of Wilmington in Stilman White's homecoming senior game, but by March they'll be getting 22 minutes, 8 and 7 out of Luke "Hourglass" Maye, and they'll be a tough out, as usual.

I can't even fathom where Joel Berry would go next season. It certainly won't be the NBA. Very nice college player. But, he's far more of a facilitator than playmaker and hardly a dominant defender. With respect to the NBA, Berry reminds me a lot of Quinn Cook -- but with a little added strength. Berry's currently not even listed on any mockdraft board that I've seen.

As for next year, I think Berry will be a very good college player. But he's not even the playmaker that Marcus Paige was even when his shot was off. IMO, Berry just doesn't have the ballhandling, athleticism, or shotmaking ability to consistently create offense in the halfcourt when the office bogs down -- which was Paige's role for years. UNC will be good next year. But I think it's going to be glaring how they currently don't have a single perimeter player who can create his shot from a non-advantage situation. Just rewatch the last couple minutes of the Duke-UNC game in Chapel Hill to see Berry struggling to generate offense by himself.=

Berry is closer to Ty Lawson than Ty Thornton. The kid is talented.

I agree that he's much better than Ty Thornton. But the kid is far closer to Quinn Cook than Ty Lawson. As I said above, Berry's a good player. But the guy has only average PG size, good but not great speed, mediocre jumping ability, good but not great ballhandling, little midrange game, and virtually no ability to create jump shots off the dribble. He does a lot of things very well. But, I just don't see a superstar player there at all -- and certainly not someone who will end up playing in the NBA anytime soon. Duke spent years unable to find someone who could stay in front of Lawson. I have no doubt that we have multiple guys who can lock Berry up in the half court if the game came down to it.

And I'd add that, against Duke, Berry combined in 2 games to go 5 for 23 from the field and registered only 1 assist -- yes 1 assist in 2 games. Neither of those figures are Ty Lawson numbers.
