CLEVELAND - Which is more difficult: scoring or defending against Kentucky's great size?

Assistant coach Erik Martin, who is in charge of West Virginia's bigs, believes the Mountaineers' No. 1 objective should be to try and slow down Kentucky offensively.

"Since we are a defensive team defending them is probably more important," he said. "You can't simulate 6-11 in practice. I think the tallest guy we've got is Brandon (Watkins) at 6-10. They've got about three or four guys that are 6-11 or taller."

Martin pointed out that West Virginia has played big teams this year, specifically Texas, which rotated four players 6-10 or taller. The Mountaineers lost by 17 at Texas but came back to beat the Longhorns in Morgantown by seven a month later.

"Texas is similar," he said. "Are they as talented as Kentucky? I wouldn't say that. Size only matters if you're not doing what you're supposed to do."

Martin said his guys are going to play Kentucky Thursday night the same way they have played everyone else this year - very aggressively.
