Don't think we should be bashing an ex Sooner football player/coach. It wasn't his fault that an OU AD hired a person not qualified to coach the Sooners. It was a desperation hire that did not work out.

Blake was a bust as the OU head coach and frankly should never have been hired. And his antics at North Carolina are ridiculous. Sooner sources said Blake did much the same thing in the months after he was fired by OU, trying to hook up Wichard with potential Sooner clients

I agree that Blake proved to be a terrible hire, which was not his fault. But after he left OU, his lack of integrity showed his true character and he (and Butch Davis) got UNC put on probation for recruiting violations and breaking NCAA rules regarding contact with agents. Sorry, but I'm not buying the argument that just because he's a former Sooner, we can't voice an opinion on whether he's a good guy or not.

There are people that I've known over the years that were good guys but I'd never let them in my fox hole when it came down to a situation where it was me vs. the enemy. They simply don't perform and honestly probably don't belong in a fox hole. That isn't to say that I wouldn't have a beer with them or take a selfie by the PX and laugh about it later.

There are those who have what it takes and those who just don't. There are those who can run 2 miles in 13 minutes but can't shoot the broad side of a barn; who do you want beside you? Blake may be a "good guy" in some opinions, but as a head coach he sucks. That's not an opinion, that's a fact. I'd have a beer with him and maybe take a selfie for giggles at the bar, but he belongs far far away from any head coaching job.

You can be a former Sooner and a crappy coach. Loved on one hand and despised on another. It is what is. Redemption is only a season away every year. I hope he finds redemption elsewhere.

I choose to remember John Blake as an outstanding nose guard.
I think we had some of the greatest players at middle tackles in the 60's to 70's. See my list and correct me if I'm wrong or add. (Plaino)..

Granville Liggins
Lucious Selmon
John Blake

Tell me who I'm missing?
