He has three songs in the top 100 of essential folk music. A great talent is gone.
That man should get more recognition than he’ll likely get on a national level. Truly great songwriting. “Hello in There” and “Sam Stone” among my all time favorites. Plus, the best album title ever: “Lost Dogs and Mixed Blessings”. The world has lost an immense talent. I got to see him perform live...makes me sad.
So is it under water, strip mined out of existence or what? I haven't seen many ghost towns.
The town of Paradise was actually removed by TVA.
In the 1960s and probably up to around 1980, the paradise power plant was the largest in the world.
Much of the area around Paradise was actually mined by Pittsburgh and Midway or P&M coal company. Most of county that was mined was hauled away by Peabody.

John Prine telling Steve Goodman that he had not written the perfect country and western song is one of the greatest things ever in country music.
I was drunk, the day my mom, got outta prison. When I went, to pick her up, in the rain. But before I could get to the station in my pickup truck, she got run over by a damned ole train......... and I’ll hang around........ sang that many a times back in the day.

Glad to hear Unit 3 was retired this year. I know the new gas plant doesn't require as many workers to operate but the environment of KY is worth the sacrifice of an aging and dirty coal plant replaced by 21st century technology and gas fracking. JMHO.
