From the homepage of his ACB team for the past 6 years- Gran Canaria.
If this is the end for the 35 year old Shurna, it’s been a long and memorable career.
John Shurna (Illinois, United States, 1990) will not be part of Dreamland Gran Canaria's roster for the 2025/26 season, as the club has not exercised the clause in his contract that would allow him to remain with the team.
Shurna arrived in Gran Canaria in the summer of 2019 from MoraBanc Andorra. Over the seasons, he became one of the Marea Amarilla's favorites due to his commitment on the court and his friendliness off it.
He leaves Gran Canaria having played 283 matches across domestic and European competitions. His performance in the 7Days EuroCup 2023 final, helping the team to become European champions for the first time in its history, and being named MVP of that match, will be remembered. Shurna remains the club's all-time leading scorer in European competitions, the tenth player with the most ACB appearances, and the sixth-best player in points and PIR, also in the ACB.
At Club Baloncesto Gran Canaria, we wish only the best, both professionally and personally, for such a transcendental figure in our recent history.
