Applewhite is the perfect guy for the Houston job at this time. Great choice.
Even though Applewhite was a Whorn, I gained alot of respect for the kid with how he handled getting screwed over with the Chrissy Simms ordeal at Texas. Always felt he got a raw deal with that situation. Good to see over the years he has had much success in the coaching world. Hope he does a great job at Houston!!
Simms never caused me any RRR anxiety. Applewhite did. IM0, he was much the better competitor.
Yeah, I gotta admit, I've got some respect for Applewhite. He was a great competitor and an emotional leader of his horn teams. I even cut him some slack after getting nose-to-nose and talking trash to one of our DBs who talked him near the texas bench during one of the RRR games because I liked the way he played the game. And I also think he showed a lot of class after getting benched (erroneously) by Mack Brown so that he could get Chris Simms in as the starter, just as he had promised his dad, Phil Simms.
Anyway, best of luck to Opie.
