Finally got caught up in Canada. 8 years on the run is pretty good. Hate it for the guy because he will likely die in jail now.

Growing up in Nelson county his legend always grew. We would ride up to his property in high school. High times indeed.

I am from Washington County. This man was a legend around here. He will spend the rest of his life in jail because this is his third strike.

I worked with his son Jeff at a landscape company in Bardstown about 22 years ago. He had just got out of prison. On our last day working together before I went back to college he told me he never wanted to go back to prison. A few years later he was caught growing pot and killed himself.

I grew up in the heyday of the Cornbread Mafia in Nelson County and knew several guys that had big growing operations.

James Higdon's book does a great job detailing the long history of it.

He could get off. If they send him back to Nelson county there is a chance that area is such a disaster right now him skating the charges are at least 50/50 right now.

Sounds like other guys around here are more familiar but if your from KY and don't know about Boone or the cornbread mafia then you must live in a bubble.

Funny thing is ive never heard a bad word about anyone involved.

They had land and they knew how to grow marijuana.

Except he is charged with federal crimes so he won't be tried in Elizabethown in front of Nelson Countians.

Have they said where he will be tried? The crime was in Springfield so I assume Bardstown would be the closest jurisdiction for trial

There is no federal court in Bardstown. Most likely it will be Louisville. And depends on the charges, conspiracy charges can be almost anywhere conspiracy is alleged to have taken place.

I know of three people in LaRue County that were killed execution style back in the 80's that were rumored to have been involved with that bunch. Not sure "nice guy" is an appropriate description of someone running that type of criminal enterprise.

Washington County is in the Louisville division, so you're correct--his case will be on the Louisville docket.

In a ring like that anyone involved making money could have done those deeds. Might not of even had anything to do with Johnny as he never had a violent run in period. Those are the crimes that accelerate these type of rings getting shut down legally.

He was busted 3 times with massive amounts of pot and wasn't even found with weapons which really complicate drug charges, lol. But some guy on a message board thinks he killed 3 people!

How so........his first charge totaled 182 tons of pot......and the only things they found to keep folks away was copperhead snakes with tails stakes in the ground, dogs, and a few other odd things to keep people away.

The charge he is on the run for was 2400 plants on his farm which the local govt let him out on bail.

If your busted with drugs and guns(especially in that quantity) there is no bailing yourself out.

At least that's my understanding. Hell my dad was busted with a joint and a gun was locked in the glove box and the police took it and never gave it back. That stupid run in cost him his CC permit.

That's my point Johnny was never found with any weaponry in his charges which were all on his or others members land.

I didn't know him at all, but from hearsay of anyone I know that did know of him or actually knew him basically says he would help anyone.

I thought he was charged and taken into custody but you're right.

My understanding was he was the head of a billion dollar multi state marijuana corporation. The largest ever known/uncovered in the USA.

The rumor was they were part of the ring
"Some guy" didn't say he did it

More cash is supposedly burried in Marion county than anywhere else in the world. Cash was so prevalent there, that its value was far lower than anywhere else. People were cash poor beyond belief. I've seen $50,000- $60,000 in moldy cash on a blackjack table in the back of a bar, and it lasted for hours.
One of the guys back in the hayday was wanted by the law, and one of his close relatives died. The law showed up to the funeral assuming he would be there. So after the funeral they brought the body to a local bar, put him up on the bar, and people paid their respects by blowing dope smoke in his face. Damdest thing I've ever seen.
As a teenager, I saw more stuff in Loretto and raywick bars than I could have ever imagined. Just a wild place back in the day.

If you're charged with a drug crime in federal court, there's a statutory presumption that you should be held without bond. And the potential penalties are incredibly severe regardless of if there were weapons involved.

Case in point--Even without guns, Boone is still looking at a potential life sentence based on his priors and the scale of his alleged 2008 cultivation operation. It's that strict. That's my point.
