This video is heartbreaking but shows the amazing man / coach Dawkins is. Found this on my lunch at work today and thought I'd share.
Aside from family and military service, there's probably nothing that compares to the emotional highs (and lows) involved in competitive sports. That last game is a gut punch.I mean this in no disrespect towards any of them. But how weird is it that we invest so much of ourselves in things like a basketball game or tournament?

As a guy who played a lot of organized sports growing up, I don’t understand how you can’t. For many, competitive sports saves lives.
Oh I'm definitely not saying it wasn't. It would be for anyone.Aside from family and military service, there's probably nothing that compares to the emotional highs (and lows) involved in competitive sports. That last game is a gut punch.
I understand where you're coming from, Mpm. It's no disrespect imo, 'cause it applies to almost all of us. There are far, far more important things in life than basketball, yet we can become so invested in it that it becomes almost a life and death situation. It isn't, believe me it isn't. It has it's place though, and when put in the proper perspective it has great value. But at this time, these young men have poured their hearts and soul into this game, and it's not apparent at the moment to them, but one day they will understand the meaning of it all, and it's context.

I was at the game yesterday and was in the section next to a lot of the UCF fans and after the game a few of the players came up to see family, girlfriends or whatever and they were hugging and crying. I actually felt really bad for them. We don’t normally ever get to see that after a game so it brings some things into perspective
Cried for Johnny yesterday just like I did in 86 and now I’m crying again!

I just saw Vince Taylor is an assistant coach at UCF.
I felt bad for them but not bad enough to reverse the outcome. You got to see a great game, Blue42, albeit nerve-racking.
It's sad someone had to lose, but all things considered I'd rather for it to be them than us!

That one still stings...ran into never nervous Pervis some years later at a Maryland gas station and couldn’t bring myself to acknowledge him...yep, I was still salty!Yep. Johnny, Mark, Jay, David, Tommy and the rest deserved to win that one. It's been a while and I remember how disappointed I was. Really wanted that 1st one that year. OFC
