He is a 5 star recruit. He can create his own , he just needs to be helped to make better decision which is normal for a freshman.

Coach Pope give him more minutes and force his development!

Jasper needs more minutes and Chandler, Noah less minutes.

Must improve ball handling and learn to pass first shoot second. He should be a 12ppg and 7-8 assist type guy. He still plays like he’s a 20 ppg 3 assist guy. Has made some good passes today though so let’s hope he’s buying into that.

To me Jasper and Chandler's minutes are interchangeable. Jasper has better offense than Chandler, but Chandler can be more physical on defense.

What I would rather see is Jasper at the 2 with Lowe at the 1. Jasper has to play more when Lowe plays.
He has scored 20 points in the six games against good competition. JJ has scored 79 points in the other seven games against inferior competition

Agree. He might be frustrating at times, but I think you have to live with that because of his much higher potential. Give him time to figure it out.

Yeah 7 assists and zone buster for him today, should be definitely encouraging .

Johnson was not a 5*, and neither was Moreno or Lewis… Or Chandler (BYU)

Pope has never signed a 5* HS recruit, not at BYU, and so far at UK he’s 0-26. Just setting the record straight 👍🏼

He doesn't have good a good handle and needs to hit the weight room. Guy looks like a thin rail. I do believe he can be a good player for us down the road.

Im fine giving him all of Noahs minutes... but the physicality of the SEC is going to expose him.

He probably needs to be the backup PG.

Easy to run the point when they are sitting back in a zone inviting the threes.

JJ looks like he is playing in slow motion. If he is in the game the opposing team will post him up every time like St John’s did

I think he can be good but he is going to have to hit the weights hard. He looks like a freshman in high school playing against college players

Love the 7:1 AS/TO today but he still can’t keep his dribble active. Any sign of pressure and he picks up his dribble. I have no idea who helped him with his fundamentals but they failed. I’m not saying it to bury the kid, because I’d love to see him blossom. He has a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong way to go to be deserving of the minutes he plays. It actually seems odd to me people clamoring for more minutes for him —- defensively, he oscillates between playing too upright and gambling too much. He simply doesn’t have the strength to defend against the drive. Offensively, he looks slow to make reads and can’t score in the paint. I heard Rob Dillingham comparisons before the season, but he looks more like Quade Green to me.

I’d play him a lot more and by the time march gets here he will be ready. Chandler and Noah have had their shot and they just are not talented enough to be consistent contributors. Aberdeen has struggled and Oweh has regressed so much since last year. It’s hard to watch our offense without Lowe or JQ in because we don’t have basketball players. We have role players who do good things unfortunately none for them can create or make good decisions offensively.

I think that is just his build but I was surprised he hasn’t put on any muscle preparing for college.

A quick 5 second google search says you’re wrong.
He was a five star at one point but he moved down before even the final rankings came out and they were right. He’s a tier below the five stars of this class.

24th four star on rivals
25th four star On3
18th four star on ESPN

The point stands, he’s not a five star for any service. Every one had him at the first four star.

So actually taking five minutes to do real research would tell you that you are wrong.

I see his upside moreso than say Chandler. He's a better penetrator and shooter, Defense needs improvement. I think increased minutes would help his development.

7 assists yesterday was a positive step. Actually passed up some shots!
I think he could have got 25 points if he had wanted. Was getting where he wanted.
However, that crossover step back 3 was awesome!

lots of upside but we've all seen games where the season was on the line and the upside kid ended up looking like a deer in the headlights, even when the previous coach played them over veteran more consistent players.

the problem is , in today's environment, if Johnson doesn't get his minutes over a Chandler type player, someone gets in his ear and he bolts to the highest bidder next season.

all you've done is prepare a kid for another coach

I'm fine with him getting more minutes as long as he plays team ball. The minute he reverts to his earlier version, those minutes would go away just as fast.

100% right
If he would except that roll, he would get more minutes.

I would love for this to happen, but I just don’t know if he can play the 1. He’s wired to score too much for my liking.
Bringing a different set of skills to the position is good!

It allows him to play alongside Lowe in some lineups. Plus, if he is efficient at scoring, having a scoring threat at the 1 is helpful.
