Juicy Sommelier found guilty on 5 counts.

A jury in Cook County, Ill., has found actor Jussie Smollett guilty of felony disorderly conduct for staging a fake hate crime nearly three years ago.

Prosecutors said the former Empire star arranged for two men to attack him, wrap a noose around his neck and douse him with bleach in downtown Chicago, yelling racist and homophobic slurs — and that Smollett repeatedly lied to the police about the incident.

The verdict was announced Thursday, days after Smollett took the witness stand to tell the jury, "there was no hoax."

Jurors deliberated for a little more than nine hours over two days before finding Smollett guilty on five of the six counts he faced, which were related to a false report he gave on the day of the attack. He was acquitted on one count of giving a false report to police at a later date.

Smollett faces as much as three years in prison

"That verdict was a resounding message by the jury that, in fact, Mr. Smollett did exactly what we said he did," special prosecutor Dan Webb said at a press conference after the jury's decision was announced.

I think he'll do at least some time. If Illinois law is anything like Kentucky, he's actually lucky he was found guilty of felonies rather than misdemeanors when it comes to time served (not the other consequences of being a convicted felon).

Absolutely zero chance he goes to prison. This whole trial was nothing more than a symbolic gesture where real consequences were never on the table.

He should also be charged with perjury for lying under oath, but of course he won’t be.

To avoid looting and burning of businesses so close to Christmas.
No I just don’t think you should go to prison for making up a stupid story. No one got “hurt” he’s just responsible for hurting race relations or whatever. His career is over so no need to throw him in prison for making up a story like a child.

If a white friend of mine said 3 black guys jumped him and they didn’t I wouldn’t think he should go to jail either.

You can’t be serious, this was not a harmless crime as you’re portraying it. This absolutely crushed race relations for a period of time and I promise you someone got hurt because of it.

It also cost the taxpayers a lot of money and police man hours which is the equivalent of fraud.

If your white friend just said that, of course he shouldn’t go to prison, as lying isn’t a crime. If he filed false police reports and cost the local gov’t a ton of money, he should absolutely be charged. He should also be charged if he lies under oath.

You reference a white guy to try and show Smollett is going through this simply because he’s black, which is racist. He’s going through it because he decided to break the law, and anyone should be punished for said actions regardless of race.

This is a hypothetical, but what if the police happened to find 2 white guys with red hats walking that night? Their lives would have been ruined for no reason at all, even after proven innocent.

False police reports and fake hate crimes can have real consequences for innocent and good people, which is why it’s illegal and should 100% be punished. You wouldn’t find it so harmless if someone alleged a fake crime against you or someone in your family.

People got hurt and so did businesses. Maybe not directly related to this one but it fueled a lot of dissension around the nation and fed into the already fake racist claims going on around the country. As long as these things go unpunished they will just get worse.

This guy knew if he made claim that bad mouthed a Trump supporter it would have traction. He is the worst kind of person and the press couldn’t wait to write his fake story. He should get the max IMHO

I would agree with rogue had Smollett not doubled and tripled down on it. Once it was clear to everyone that this was ********, he should’ve played the addiction card, apologized, and gone to rehab.

But that’s not what he did and we ended up with a damn trial that was a complete waste of time and resources. On top of all the other wasted time and resources.

He’s ridiculously stupid and deserves to go to prison just for that alone.

Wasting the time, money and resources of law officials who could have been investigating true crimes is something to be considered. I am sure with him being a celebrity and it being a hate crime accusation that a lot of the police force was dedicated to investigating a crime that wasn't a real thing. That means those folks time was wasted as was the taxpayers money to pay them to investigate a crime that didn't happen.

Exactly. There's a reason it's a felony.

This illustrates the length that the left will go. I'm not sure if anything 'significant enough' changed the outcome of the 2020 election, but this certainly leaves the door open to the possibility.

Yes, everything was going swimmingly until the left made this guy who none of you had ever heard of make up a story in order to get Biden some votes.

Hurting race relations or whatever? What world are you living in when this is now just a "whatever story?"

If a white friend of mine said 3 black guys jumped him, Biden and Kamala would not have jumped on twitter to denounce the attack. Still waiting on them to retract their tweets on this. Let us know if/when they do.

Uh it's a waste of resources and a lie intended to slander an entire group of people for something that did not happen. This is becoming quite common in the black community to create hoax after hoax to push their narrative and demonize a group of people.

To say that doesn't deserve consequences is nonsense. Promoting a lie gets people killed, hurt, businesses destroyed. A kid made up the 'Hands up, don't shoot" narrative that did not take place and that spread like wildfire by complicit media causing major damage.

He should 100% get jail time. He was trying to cause more chaos than there already was going on in the world. Lying like that should be a hate crime due to the fact that he was fabricating a hate crime.

And for all of the woke media who was ready to burn conservatives at the stake and jump to conclusions, they have lost what little credibility they had. Cutting the cord and going to strictly streaming was the best thing for me. Don’t have to filter through all of the BS on cable TV now.

Personally, I hope he gets the maximum penalty allowed. In some jurisdictions, committing perjury against a criminal defendant puts the liar at risk of getting the same penalty of the accused criminal. That's not the same thing as what happened here but it is pretty damn close and the same principle applies.

Because of his prolonged lies legit hate crimes will be less believable. He knowingly stoked racial division during a heated time full of national race protests/riots and he wasted Chicago police resources during a homicide epidemic. That's not the same thing as some dipshit publicity stunt gone wrong. His behavior was atrocious and now he's claiming he's going to be vindicated on appeal.

It will be the judge doing the sentencing and I can see where a judge will make a huge example of him.

Had he admitted he was lying two and half years ago, there should have never been charges.

If your white friend promoted a fictitious racially motivated hate crime perpetrated by 3 black men into the national discourse for the purpose of creating discord and 1000s of police hours were utilized because of the false claim, I do believe that person would be prosecuted. And, I suspect no cable news talking heads would be sending him inside info to help him cover his backside.

Agree, he ought to serve time. Chicago police have plenty of real crime to chase instead of tracking down this idiot's story.

You're missing the point. It's a mentality it seems, that the extreme have. A high tech Bolshevism, if you will. Whatever it takes, the end justifies the means.

For the record, I declined to vote for president in 2016, and at the last minute voted for 'Pence', rather than Trump, and primarily against Biden/Harris.

Why has there be no media allowed in the courtroom on this case and G Maxwell (Epstein)? Rittenhouse had media in there.
