He’s not your typical celebrity, but the story of musician Ian Stewart is one I can’t get out of my mind lately. Stewart was a fine musician and was part of the original line-up of the Rolling Stones. A band we now know is one of the most legendary in the history of music.

Each surviving member of the Rolling Stones is now worth hundreds of millions. They and their descendants are financially set for centuries. And Ian Stewart? He’s not part of it. Because Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham felt he didn’t fit the part… Stewart wasn’t “cute enough”. He was square-jawed, burly, not as handsome as the other members so he was cut out for not “fitting in visually”…

Ian Stewart stayed on as road manager and part time contributor. But as his former band mates rose to great fame and acclaim, he remained broke and virtually unknown. He died of a massive heart attack in 1985, almost forty years ago. He was only 47.
