provided duke handles business on sat against clemson....you would think that duke would have to leap frog gonzaga purely based on schedule/conference/big wins....ultimately it doesnt matter, but the zags are beating some not so good teams...????

Gonzaga is very good, but their schedule lends some to believe they're not. My guess, and again purely a guess, is they are seeded as the fourth #1 seed....thus placing them on UKs side of the bracket.

Yeah like dukiejay said, the Zags are for real. They may play in a weak conference, however, this is a final four caliber team. If you haven't had the luxury of watching them play, I would suggest doing just that. They are special. Probably Mark Few's best chance since Adam Morrison's years to make it to a final four. Not a team to sleep on or to feel like we could hop over in the rankings, not saying you implied that. They deserve their ranking as it is right now. Four number one seeds right now are: Kentucky, UVA, Zags, and Duke in my opinion. Kansas, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Nova are the two seeds. This is going to be a helluva last few weeks before the big dance.

They have high major size, good shooting and depth. They are a good team, and the only thing that separates them from being unblemished was a wild finish against Arizona. I think they are a better version of Wichita State last year, good thing they won't have to play Kentucky in the first round.

I agree. We will lay a beat down on the zags if we meet them. I certainly hope they are the one seed on the same side of the bracket as us.

I don't think we would blow them out of the building. Gonzaga is tough. This is the best of their teams, IMO. They have size, great guards, and veteran leadership.

Gonzaga is good no doubt, but I can wholeheartedly say that if Duke gets a 2 seed, I really hope they are in Gonzaga's region.

Gonzaga is a good team but i bet they would have 3 to 5 losses in the ACC, B12 or SEC. When the best compition you have in months is Saint Marys and your down by 11 at half i think teams like UK, Duke, Wisky would really just be way too much for them to go from playing that to them. i personally hope we(UK) plays them and i almost bet we lead by close to 15 points at some point and win very easily. I think honestly the first agrresive athletic team with a couple 6-10 guys they run into in march their gone.

If Duke is a #2 seed they will be in Kentucky's region. Geography is the only thing considered.

KY is a lock #1 seed, and likely the lock top #1 seed so they will be in Cleveland.
Gonzaga is a probable #1, but even if they drop to #2 they will to out west to LA unless Arizona is a higher #2 which is doubtful.
Duke/UVA whomever is #1 will go to Syracuse. If both are #1 then the higher #1 goes to Syracuse and the other goes to Houston.
If Wisconsin is a #1 they will go to either Syracuse or Houston, most likely Houston as they will probably be behind UVA or Duke.

So... the #2 seeds could be either UVA, Duke, Wisconsin, or Villanova.
If Villanova is the top #2 seed (unlikely) they will go to Syracuse with either Duke or UVA.
If not, then either UVA, Duke, or Wisconsin will be the top #2 seed and they will go to Cleveland with Kentucky.

SO, most likely scenario is:

Cleveland - #1 Kentucky - #2 Wisconsin>Duke>UVA
Syracuse - #1 UVA>Duke - #2 Villanova
Houston - #1 Duke>UVA>Wisconsin #2 Kansas
Los Angeles - #1 Gonzaga #2 Arizona

I'd prefer to be 1-seed Gonzaga's 2-seed, as opposed to having to go through 2-seed Kansas as a 1-seed. The best scenario would be to be a 1-seed with Villanova or Zona as the 2.

^ I could be mistaken, and hopefully someone on here can correct me, but with the pod system the NCAA instituted, geography plays a much less significant role in seeding (as teams from different regions play in the same arena in the first few rounds - has happened to Duke and UNC multiple times). I think now the seeding is closer to the "snake" format, where the top seed gets the lowest rated two seed, the lowest rated 1 seed gets the highest 2, etc. Under those circumstances I would say it is actually pretty likely Duke and Gonzaga are together if Duke is a 2.

It does seem like the top 8 ranked teams right now will be the #1 and #2 seeds. In fact, I think all those teams could afford to lose a game and have their top 2 seed be safe, maybe with the exception of Kansas. Of the rest of the teams, probably ND and UNI are closest to cracking a top 2 seed.

I read a article just this weekend and the selection committee said were going to focus MORE on seeding then geography this year. So accorrding to the current AP poll it would most likely look like this as of right now.

1. UK
2. KU
3. ND
4. Oklahoma

1. UVA
2. Arizona
3. N. Iowa
4. UNC

1. Gonzaga
2. Villanova
3. Wichita St
4. Maryland

1. Duke
2. Wisconsin
3. Iowa St
4. Utah

UK region plays Duke region and UVA region plays Gonzaga region in the final 4.

zoid1, just say that they did focus more on seeding than geography this year, the selection committee does its best to try and avoid re-matches (as much as they can). Given that, and if your selections were correct, I believe that Kansas and Wisconsin would switch places. Kansas has already played Kentucky and Wisky has already played Duke. It would just make sense to me imoa.
Anyway, it's all just speculation right now, there's a long way to go yet, and even the top 2 seeds could still change.
Go Duke!!

Frankly, I think it's way too early to get into this kind of nuanced conversations about mixing and matching 2 or 3 seeds. While, personally, I think Wisconsin is a more formidable threat to UK in the NCAAs, it's far too early to know where they're going to fall on the S-Curve and / or if they're even going to be a 2 seed. Wisconsin's played an incredibly soft version of a Big 10 schedule to date, and now end with a few tough road games and then the big 10 tourney. If they don't finish strong, I could easily see them as falling below KU on the S-curve anyways. Conversely, if they sweep through the end of their schedule, I would bet they get a #1.

I don't think Nova / Arizona will be flopped as Zoid suggested. Geography will trump there.

I'd far prefer to be a #1 seed regardless of the #2 -- as it often creates a far easier path to the elite 8. I think that's far more helpful to Duke's odds of making the final four than the marginal differences between teams like Gonzaga, Kansas, Nova, etc. While I'd prefer to avoid Wisconsin, even that wouldn't cause me to prefer a #2.

Personally, while I think KU is good, I don't think they're a terrible matchup for us and, frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if they get upset before the elite 8. While they are clearly good, they have generally been far from dominant away from the state of Kansas.

FWIW, the WCC is actually the 7th highest rated conference in the country... higher than the American, A10, and Mountain West.
