This is the most experienced team in the NCAA and it shows. Through exhibition it is more cohesive than most teams a month in.

Rebounding is going to be a weakness. Just not a lot of depth.

This team plays defense. Defending 2-A champs shot 39%.

There will be nights where this team loses bad. Baskets get lids on them.

If a recruit wants 'me' ball...this ain't the place.

This head coach SOUNDS like a neurosurgeon when he starts talking....but he is so infectious with enthusiasm it comes through everywhere.

I hope the BBN gives this man some years.

Watching these guys that haven't been together two months play as a team is a joy to watch.

I'm going to enjoy this ride and worry about rankings, final fours and banners later on.

What some people seem to forget. This was one of the best D2 teams in the country, and we beat them by 30, and over the last 5 or 6 years we struggled to beat NAIA teams by 30.

We were consistently ranked in the top 10 at the start of the season in recent years. How did that work out over the whole season and post season? Most see us as a mid pack SEC team as we start this season ,I think there is some merit to that line of thought. I also think it is very possible we may be better than that, It appears we may get bullied down low but how is that different than the past few years? Our historically young teams have struggled with physical play, we have had great athletes with off the chart measurables who had precious few basketball skills.

I'll take this team over what we have had the past couple of years. In theory line this team up against last year's team and who wins ,better yet line this team up against Oakland last year and who wins?

My general thoughts (in no particular order).

This team has a general calmness about it. It probably comes from veteran leadership, or that most of them have all been 1000pt career scorers, but they all have supreme confidence in getting to their spots and making game winning plays.

Carr is remarkably smooth in the post. He's not uber athletic, but he does a great job managing his 7 foot frame.

I really love Oweh and Butler. Both are going to do amazing things this year.

Love the spark that Kerr brings to the table. I was worried he'd be a firecracker out there- never sure when he'd go off and do something crazy- but he seems to be all about getting his teammates involved. I love it.

Garrison has some serious upside. If he can improve his defense, he's going to be a helluva player.

Man the OP is more focused than I. My random thoughts started with UK, hoping Williams is OK, then i saw on TV where Biden called 1/2 of American Trash, so i thought of a tee shirt (on the front one mans trash (pick of Biden with the red slash is our country's treasure. On the back put Trashy Thing! Heck then I thought about getting ready for next Monday when the games are for real. After that I had a random thought about work for an issue with a customers software, back to basketball, back to election 2024 and so forth. Man my head hurts, can someone make it stop. I only get an average of 3 hours sleep each night.

you see what i mean. My random is well random. To quote the VP (word salad). lol

My two cents... we won't get blown out much because we have grown men guarding people.
Butler is a problem. Dude is strong on both ends, he can screw up a whole game plan.
Oweh is physical also. We'll be able to handle good offensive guards like the two at A and M last year, which made Rob and Reed look silly last year.
Hard to beat any team that makes 12-15 3s. Uk might average that this year.
Good to see the back up center play so well. And he's definitely the second best center.
Carr is really good. Him being in foul trouble will be the biggest factor in big games. No one on the roster is like him.
Love Pope. Was concerned when he first got hired. No longer worried in the least.

I swear Butler is a stone cold defensive killer out there. Oweh is also a great defender. I would have Oweh crashing the defensive boards more, he can block out bigs. Carr loves this offense. If we hit 35% on a bad day from 3 (which is what we called last night) then we will be in almost any and every game we play. I bet we see more 47% from 3 than 35% from 3. Too many guys can hit. Early in the game we were 3 chunking instead of getting the shots in the flow of the offense. Once that changed we were fine. We have 3 legit drivers, 4 if you want to count Carr on this team, Butler, Oweh and Chandler can all get to the rim. Robinson might be he does not have to with hitting from the hash.

This will be a very fun year. Up or down will be fun to watch. Injuries will be key just like any year.

I love how Oweh drives to the basket. Grown man.

For sure. But playing a "high flying" style of basketball is also fun. We may lose games, but it wont be from not trying to light up the scoreboard for 40 mins.
The best of both worlds is what we’re hoping for. We see the style that is good, let’s hope it translates to winning in the SEC, big games (road, at home, and Champions classic and other events) and the SEC/NCAA Tournament.

I just want to go back to going into big games, expecting to win. Any big game I expected to lose under Calipari. It was just a sinking feeling as tip-off approached.

There will be games we just have a hard time dealing with high end talent, and when shots aren't falling. If we are feeling it we can beat anyone though.

Until we see them against an elite team we won't really know much. Duke game will give us more insight. Win or lose we'll know what they are made of.

It will be interesting to see how the "look" of the teams stack up. Are we going to look like a scrappy undermanned team using smart play to compete? Like the teams that were Cals Kryptonite the last few years? Will we look like we belong in the same teir?

Pope will be very dangerous with some young talent/veterans who've stayed under him multiple years.

But all in all, it's fun and entertaining watching UK basketball again.
The young talent won't make him better. But definitely veteran players who have played here a few years will make us dangerous. Of course, these days most everybody transfers after the season so we'll see.

Lol, a true top 10 or top 5 player will. Some of yall have swung way too far to the other side. You still take guys like Cooper Flagg if you can.

I’ve never had an issue with onds, I just don’t want to solely depend on them or take the lower 5*s who just assume they’re ond. Take a bonafide ond baller (like you said top 5-10 range) and mix them in with some savvy vets, and I think you have a good recipe for success.

But...that's not the same thing as just a young player. Sure a top 10 player would make us dangerous. Want to know what would make us more dangerous? A Top 10 player who stays 3 years.

And that's my point - young talent is not greater just because it's young.

Never gonna happen. A lot of these guys are in college for 3-4 years for a reason. Point is, you take guys like John Wall, Zion, AD, ETC ETC.

Top 10 NBA talent doesn’t (and shouldn’t) play more than 1 season in college. So sure, it’s great, but it isn’t happening. What you want is 1 or 2 sure fire OAD lottery picks surrounded by a team of NBA quality players that take 2-3 years to develop.

I’m not going to concede we will ever get blown out. Too much balance and vets. People tend to parrot the Matt Jones theory that there will be nights when everybody on the team can’t hit and we will get torched. Not seeing that with this offense.
