The same year as UNC. Can anyone enlighten me on this. Kind of confusing. OFC

I don't know much about the Helms Trophy but wouldn't it be hilarious if it was just another lie in a long list of lies that UNC has been caught in over the last several years.

No , the AAU not only had a tourney they had THE tourney. Butler won it. End of story.

One other thought. The fact that unx hangs their Helm's banner right alongside their other ill-gotten banners is indicative of just how depraved and win-at-all-costs-damn-all-else that school and their fans are. Pathetic. #carolinaway

unc has vision of what new Smith Center, new arena, might look like

There's something odd about these pics. Can't quite put my finger on it. What ever could it be....?

I find it odd that this hasn't come up before now. This really takes shine off that Helms Trophy doesn't it. I even wonder if UNC nation even knows Butler has one. OFC

Here's a buddy of mines response to DJ's comments.....I'm going to jump in with my two cents. The reason the NCAA does not recognize the AAU tournament is because the AAU was not the governing body of college basketball. The NCAA was around just not the tournament as we know it. Some facts about those AAU tournaments you accidentally left out. The AAU tournament was a tournament comprised of mostly non collegiate teams. The Bulldogs beat the Kansas City Athletic club to win that tournament in 1924. So, in 1923 when the Kansas City Athletic Club defeated Hillyard, INC. in the AAU tournament who would have been the collegiate champion that year? Only four years in the history of the AAU tournament did a college/university win it. Now I know my opinion may be a little biased but how does winning this tournament make them the "collegiate champions" from that year? I understand the hate you have for Carolina and I return it mutually for Duke, but the banner is hanging in the rafters for a reason. The banner is there because the NCAA recognizes the Helms Athletic Foundation trophy winners in the Official NCAA Men's Basketball Records Book. So, until the NCAA changes they way they look at champions prior to the NCAA tourney starting in 1939 expect to see that banner displayed proudly in the rafters of the Dean Dome.

Look at unx's slate from 1924. They , too , played non-collegiate teams. Played the Charlotte YMCA twice , I believe. Also , I'd like to see the documentation regarding all the "NCAA was around just no tourney and why they "recognize" the Helms yada yada yada." Heck , I "recognize" the Helms too but that's because I "recognize" bs when I see it. If that defense is the best he has? Lol. AND if ya notice the hole fan IGNORED large swaths of factual info...Helms didn't exist in 1924 , based on one man's opinion , retroactively awarded etc. One other thing..Mr. Helms named a DIFFERENT champion in some years than the one determined by the NCAA tournament AFTER (obviously) the NCAA started having their tourney. Did the NCAA "recognize" those Helms champions too? Lulz.

Tons of this kinda stuff on the net. A cursory search reveals as much. This one came up quickly. Got some mileage on it but the core facts remain true today. And like today , there was/is a hole trying to defend it. Predictably , it gets ugly for 'im...
