If the NFL had unlimited free agency with no contractual obligations, which is basically what we now have at the college level, there would be total chaos.
College football is now "Money Ball" with NIL unleashed! The game we all loved is gone unless major corrections are made.

Well, corrections will never be made, that much is for sure. As long as the involved parties are making money, the quality of the game doesn't matter.

Changes will be made only if the richest NILs dominate college football, causing a decline in fan interest and TV viewership. The boys at Madison Avenue and ESPN headquarters won't stand for that. Right now because of NIL money, the game is sort of rigged. If/when the general college football fan figures that out, things will change. But, not until then.

But unlike NFL teams, Colleges have zero power in this game. The "student-athletes" aren't employees so the colleges have no contractual authority over them.

That's right and my point in the original post. If the NFL had unlimited free agency with no contractual obligations, which is basically what we now have at the college level, there would be total chaos. So why are we doing this in college football?

Because SCOTUS didn't think this one through.
