That’s the problem, he is a horrible recruiter. BYU was able to get the #1 player after Pope left the program. Pope at UK with more tradition, more resources, Pope is still striking out left and right for top recruits. People bring up the transfer portal, but that will become harder with the way this season is going.

BYU getting Dybantasa isn't so much a "We can recruit with Pope out of the way."

Young has rich friends, namely the owner of the Jazz. He was able to tap into that relationship to make a major splash recruitment win.

I 100% believe the KSR article where they said Pope got his feelings hurt and told people Kentucky wouldn't get into bidding wars. I think we lost the big fish early saying that. And then Pope started paying up for others. Maybe he'll learn his lesson. Maybe he won't.

I also fully believe that Pope, UK, AND JMI are hesitant to make certain NIL deals because they're afraid of "breaking the rules." Then every other school makes the deals we won't make. And then NIL GO or whatever it's called signs off on it.

I don't think Pope is a great recruiter.
I think Mitch is handicapping us.
I think JMI is handicapping us.

I think all 3 things can be (and are) true.
