It’s hilarious. He’s not “coming around” we’re barely out of October. Hey, I’ve said it too, I get it. But after sleep i think it’s easy to say losing to UL is something nobody here is accustomed to after decades.
It’s October on the road in a game we weren’t favored in and we played as bad as you’ll ever see and had a shot to win. It’s pretty remarkable this team can play that out of sync, in early November, and almost beat losiville playing out of their minds in a game that Louisville has pumped up for months. Total superbowl game, and they still almost won.
Pope will have to perform or he’ll be replaced. The administration is in a bad spot on football so basketball isn’t negotiable. Everyone involved knows it. But this roster is really interesting. I think they need to get it together quicker we can’t lose a bunch of games we’ve got all time records to protect here. But Pope built this roster to win sec and national titles. Not October and November road warrior championship games. It just is what it is right now. That UL team isn’t going anywhere. That was their best shot, they’ve peaked, and they still almost couldn’t pull that at home against a team playing their worst.

Well you can’t get all targets. He landed guys like Aberdeen who are champs and MO who Alabama was doing everything to maintain. Both coaches were pissed at that. Freshman are a little better than they have been this year which I never thought was coming, but Pope isn’t going to build a roster of freshman we’re getting away from that. Just happened this year some of them are actually legit.
If you follow recruiting you’ll see all coaches miss and land. UNC got 1 of their top 5 targets. Duke missed a slew of targets. Alabama, Florida, UNC missed a lot of targets and players. You’re not going to land every player you speak to. And you can’t be seen throwing whatever and everyone these agents will kill you moving forward.
This will probably be a top 5 roster by years end. We need shooting to fix itself and we need to get healthy. Pope built this team to win championships in the SEC and NCAA. Gotta wait and see what it’ll do. It’s early November and it’s just 1 season. Doesn’t mean anything about what he’s going to do here.
But where is our stud go to guy? I like Oweh but sorry he's not it.
Pope has some reshuffling to do imo. Need to find a way to have a couple of shooters on the floor at all times.
I don’t know that you can really use Duke in the missed targets example. Sure they technically missed but they got their top targets and then had a top player fall in their lap late in the summer in Sarr.
I don’t expect Pope to get every target but he’s missing on plan A basically everytime. Dent and Caleb Wilson were his plan A at PG and PF/C. Take out Low and Garrison and add Dent/Wilson and this is a MUCH better team. Wilkerson wasn’t his plan A on the wing but he’s playing like a plan A option. He missed on him and Aberdeen kinda fell in our lap. Love Aberdeen but Wilkerson is a bigger need for what this team lacks. Knowing Pope led for all 3 of those guys towards the end of the process makes it worse.

That was a very realistic roster and one that is a legit title contender. It would have won last night. Definitely wouldn’t have got ***** slapped. Recruiting/talent was the eventual downfall last year and it looks like the issue again this year. Hell even if Pope had just landed Wilkerson it would have made a major difference. We don’t have that elite scorer/shooter and Wilkerson fills that role. Did have one last year either. Pope prioritized Robinson over Lanier and it hurt us. Wilkerson is this years Lanier imo.
Needs to take the jasper minutes cause he was definitely not ready for that moment last night, freshman yes but Kam should be getting in before him next game. Can’t play BG, OO, & MD at same time though & hopefully someone on the staff makes that point today.
Williams played pretty well, but he did give up an offensive rebound or two when UK desperately needed the rebound.
Garrison did not play bad, he just gets no touches. NONE of the big men get enough touches. That better change if/when JQ
starts playing. Just not overly excited with Mo D. He isn't a good scorer and was said to be strong inside. UL abused him
all night. There were several players that I would have preferred instead of him.

I think Pope would actually be more comfortable with Kam and Jelavic at the four.
They fit his style.
I really don't think he knows how to use Mo in his offense.
He had 2 points in 34 minutes vs 2 cupcakes. He should be happy he got 12 minutes.
I think Lowe was trying. However, that bit him (and the team) in the rear later in the game when he was trying too hard to bring us back. He needs to concentrate on being the team leader and not the star...IMO.
He needs to "stir the drink" and not try to be the drink. I think he'll adjust,. His defense is a concern to me, quite frankly.
Yeah, I'm not sure he could have helped us on D with the Georgetown guards. I'm concerned about all our guards staying in front of their man and with the lack of help defense.

- Oweh (I get he was not amazing) will need 28-30 mpg
- Lowe.....probably is at least 25 mpg
- Chandler looks like he's improved a ton.....20 mpg
- So that is 105 minutes for the PG, SG and SF out of 120 minutes possible for those 3 spots....and have not even mentioned Jasper or Noah.
- To me, the only way to get him 20 minutes is get him 10 mpg at the PF and 10 at the SF....and cut Jelavic...or push Jelavic/Diabate to some C minutes and bench Garrison completely....which I'd gladly do in a heartbeat.

I think Oweh CAN be that guy, he showed that many times last year. The problem is, is he trying to do too much for to show out for the NBA? He needs to get back to what worked for him.
