Just a thought but I think we need to get him out of the paint a little bit more on offense. He has good foot movement and excellent handles for a big, plus he is a pretty good shooter. Just thinking with those skills it would open up his game some. Thoughts?

Towns is very skilled, but he's NOT the guy I want shooting. I'd much rather let Booker, Aaron, Andrew and Lyles shooting before Towns. Towns needs to get better at getting and HOLDING post position. Once he's got the catch, he's the best post offensive threat UK has. He can hit the jumper, hit the hook and take it to the rack. He needs more touches, but NOT more outside shots.

I wasn't talking about shots. I'm saying he can use his skills more room to work because he has good ball skills.

Karl and Dakari are the 2 players we have that must provide a presence and scoring in the Post. Karl must get tougher and learn to hold his position down low. We have enough shooters and slashers. Post offense is the one area that has been lacking the last few games. Karl has all of the tools to score with his back to the basket, which is what we need from him to get us #9. Cal knows and Karl knows it. I'm sure he's working hard daily to improve his Post moves.

Yes, we agree. He needs to be more involved, but only if it's in the post.

Karl probably needs to stay in the post for now. Surprisingly enough though hes the least nba ready guy of our top 6 or 7 guys in my opinion. Hes got the highest ceiling, but if he goes after this year i wouldnt be surprised if he got put in the D-league a couple of times. That said (just so i dont get slammed by everyone on this board for "bashing" a player) he still is our best post option right now

I think Cal said it best....if you can't score against college players you won't be able to score at the next level. Big KAT is not ready but it is that draft on potential that will save him.

This . I know he can't pas it up , but I don't know if I've seen anyone that would benefit from another year of college more than KAT .

He needs to stop fading away on his shot. Don't avoid contact. Don't play on his tip toes. All the ability in the world but he needs to get a mean streak.

Ever since Towns committed to us, some people have been under the illusion that he is a perimeter player. He isn't. Towns is a center. Hitting a couple of long shots in an all star game, where no defense is played, does not make a perimeter player out of a 6-11 center. Calipari and Payne are trying to make a good post player out of Towns. At times this year, Towns had tried to score from distance, but the results have been what you expect when a center tries to take long jump shots. So far, Towns is having an inconsistent season. He has skills, but he does not always play strong on the block. Towns got yanked from the game yesterday when he got pushed off the block and tried to shoot a turnaround jump shot. That isn't what Calipari wants from him. Put another 20 pounds of muscle on Towns and he will be a different player. I have no doubt that he will enter the NBA draft and get taken high, but he really could use 1 more year of seasoning and conditioning at Kentucky.

I get where you're coming from fellas, Towns bread and butter comes on the block no doubt about it. I'm not talking about him sitting outside shooting three's. Was just thinking if he had some space to work with it would open his game up somewhat.

Post players don't have space. They have to learn to post up and play strong in traffic on the block. Kenny Payne is trying to teach Towns.

I am in now way second guessing Cal. Not that that is off limits or anything, I am just self aware that he knows a brazilian times better than I do..

But after watching the Bahamas tour, I was 100% certain the best use of Towns was to put him at the FT line and allow him to go to work against the defense.

- He sees the floor really well (and over the top of most defenders) and the pass out of the center of the floor is dangerous when your big can easily hit that shot, put the ball on the floor for a one dribble drive, or play in the PnR.

I would have bet a thousand dollars that's how he would have been used. And I would have lost.

He seems to get tired of the constant banging he gets on his offensive shots inside, and shows it by banging back on defense. Like most agile bigs, he wants to be that inside outside guy but like with AD, we need him to be what helps the team, a real scoring threat inside. He's a good kid and he will get it before the tournament.
