There is a front page article on the Kentucky site about Kash Daniel and other Big Blew recruits. Daniel is the highly rated linebacker from the not so powerful Paintsville High School. When I read the article he reminded me of the thousands of other UK recruits who thought their class would be the class that turned the football program around.
Unfortunately for Kash he is young and he doesn't know the history of Big Blew football. He is like thousands of other kids who thought the same thing but all of them failed. Like all the others before him he will fall into the blue abyss and will never be heard from again.

Some of these guys take that immediate playing time opportunity and don't stop to think about what that means in the big picture.

If raised as a UK fan I don't blame them. But if they are turning down legit offers then they are making a mistake.

He's another in a long list of Kentucky HS kids who play inferior opponents and are overrated (see: Towles, P; Elam, M; Barker, D; etc, etc, etc). I hope his stats are good - he plays 1A football FFS.

Hope he's able to savor each and every one of those 3-4 wins per year in lexington, not to mention at least 2-3 DCs and a couple different HC before he slinks back to Paintsville and manages a jiffy lube.

Enjoy your time at uk kash - you earned it.

I agree with the thought, but his Grandfather is, or was, the County Judge in Johnson Co. for a long time.

He'll probably have two or three Jiffy Lubes. ;)

Kash and these other young talented recruits must realize they won't be coached up from a bottom feeder SEC school. Recruits beware of the blue smoke.

After hearing the comments made from a UK player that they failed to prepare for Jackson and a running QB shows why nobody with any sense should go to UK. To think that Jackson wouldn't see any snaps is beyond being a bad coach is close to the point of not caring anymore.

There just aren't that many kids that come out of KY that are elite athletes. My guess is a very small percentage of those kids come from small communities. The chances are the recruiting rankings (good or bad) are wrong more often in Kentucky unless they played in a bigger city or community. The competition is very weak.

It also hard to judge how a player that dominates weaker competition will react to being dominated when they get to college.

My brother lives in Paintsville and comes to every FB game in case you ever need a ride down.

He knows the family and they've said nothing to him bad about UL, but they know he's a supporter.

As far as if he's any good, my brother didn't know the kid was supposed to be all that until UL started recruiting him.

So he's another "star" created from camps vs the field. Camps can't measure "want to".

Thats pretty much what I've seen and heard from people in Paintsville. Kash plays against terrible competition in the region. He's at UK because he looked good in some drills at a camp and is putting up gaudy stats playing terrible competition. Even the best teams in the region, (like Pikeville who beat Paintsville last weekend) aren't only not on the same level as the level of kids in Louisville or states like Florida....they aren't on the same planet.

He seems like a good, hard working kid but I'll be shocked if he consistently sees the field even at a program like UK. I have absolutely no problems or regrets about Petrino not seriously pursuing him...I would rather have a 3 star kid out of any state in the South over Kash.

1A football in eastern Kentucky and going to the SEC will be hard. I just think the kid will fail to get the coaching needed at UK. This UK team was a squad of 4 stars and still getting the same results as with 2 stars.

Bingo.

UKs staff have yet to demonstrate even a small ability to develop talent from talent rich high school football states like Georgia and Ohio. Coaching matters people....look no further than Drew Barker and Lamar Jackson. Drew was the much more heralded recruit and has been in Lexington nearly 2 years as of of Saturday's game...look at Lamar Jackson...the 3/4 star kid who's been on Louisville's campus for 5 months. He put up nearly 400 yards of total offense and Drew Barker got pulled for a QB who's thrown 5 more ints than TDs.

Krash is simply this season's standard Local Savior. Imagining for a second that Elam or barker were going to somehow right the ship may have been some of the most hilarious reading I have had on message boards.

My family is from Paintsville as well, more specifically Staffordsville. I wanted Kash at UofL to continue to chip away at the notion Louisville doesn't have fans out in the State. Every opportunity we get to add one kid from out in the state we should do it. Would he have ever contributed, really can't say. Unfortunately a small number of recruits from every class fail too. The only sure positive would have been to help grow the fan base.

I have to point out again that you don't see the negative attitude toward UofL out in the state that you do from UK fans that live in Louisville, Lexington or their surrounding areas. In 2013 I was staying in Paintsville during the early rounds of NCAA tournament. As usual, I was wearing a Louisville shirt. I heard nothing but wishes of good luck from those I met at stores and restaurants. Many comments of we are rooting for them too. Again someone else may have a different experience, this is what happened to me.

BTW Johnson Central is playing for the state championship this weekend against South Warren in 4A. The Eagles are Paintsville's bitter county rival.

My Nephew played at Johnson Central, then was a walk on at UL for Weber then CHS. He now lives in Atlanta.

My Neice (his sister) played BB for Painstville then went to uk.

I guess it runs in the family.

My brother played FB at uk then saw the light and transferred to EKU.

I walked on at WKU.

A divided family....:)

In the mid 80s, Johnson Central produced the Hall brothers, Mike and Moe, who played baseball for UofL. They were also incredible basketball players in HS.

My cousin Todd played basketball at Paintsville, won a state title and went on to UK. I told him he should have went to Clemson where he committed first....lol

My Dad grew up with John Pelphrey's father Jerry. When Denny started recruiting John ( as Pitino ignored him) John stayed with Mom and Dad during a visit to Louisville. I still believe the only reason Rick even recruited Pelphrey was because Denny started noticing him. ( I wouldn't be one bit surprised to see John end up on Rick's staff here at Louisville.)

Paintsville has had some good coaches for a small city school: Bill Mike Runyon and Walter Brugh.

Harry Meek also played baseball at Louisville. I believe he was from Johnson Central as well
