Any experts here? I'm not new to fishing, but I've never kayaked. For those of you who have, what kind of equipment do you use, where do you fish and what general recommendations would you have for someone starting out? I'm just looking for any information to get me started. TIA.

This may not help due to the type of kayak i use but you never know . Hobie Cat fishing kayak because you can fish with both hands , the accessories , dry storage , a rudder , pedals and it has a keel . I have a depth finder , 8 gallon livewell , anchor system and a rod holder . Many benefits over a sit in kayak , which doesn't offer most of the things listed and it's more difficult to manage while trying to fish . I use mine mostly in the ky river , Herrington lake and it handles boat wake with no issues . Some people use it to fish in the ocean , another testament to the stability the keel provides . The kayak can still be tipped , so important things should be attached to the kayak with straps . Be careful of dropping an anchor in current , a tree or large branch underwater can pull a kayak under .

I've not done it but you may want to try renting one before you get into it.
I know there's a rental shop over in Cynthiania, KY and think there's a few businesses servicing the Elkhorn which is a prime smallmouth fishery.

I went kayak fishing in Hilton Head a few weeks ago around the sound and had a blast. Been keeping an eye on prices for them ever since, hoping to get one this winter. I want one of the sit on top kayaks, either 12' or 14' long.

My little brother in Orlando, FL owns a Hobie Cat. He's fished the Keys and other places around the state.
