I came here to start a thread entitled "It Luke's team". But, as is not uncommon, I am a day late and a dollar short. That being said, Mr. Norlander nailed it.
One of the challenges of this year has been Luke's unexpected ascendency to become the hub of the team. Certainly there were signs last year of how good Luke might be. But this was Grayson's team. As a freshman, Grayson played sparingly, but was an unforgettable hero in the championship game against Wisconsin. That was followed by an incredible sophomore season where his leadership, toughness, talent and highlight-film dunks put him into a position to be a pre-season All American.
But Grayson's strange unsportsmanlike tripping behavior, the suspension, and his being stripped of being a captain has impacted his game and the team's dynamics. That is not to say that Grayson will not recover to be one of the all-time Duke greats and eventually a great NBA player. What it does mean is that he has ceded the go to man designation to Luke. That must be difficult for both of them and for the team. But facts do not lie, neither do our eyes.
