I know it was briefly talked about in some of the threads, but why was PK benched? Was it solely in hopes of keeping the match closer? I just think it’s f’d up to sit a healthy PK. Felt bad for the guy when the camera panned to him on the broadcast. I feel like they disrespected him. He’s been quite the trooper for the hawks and actually gives it his all. Not sure I can say that about all of the team

My guess is to give gabe a shot in a big time match. He came all the way down to 174, give him a match. Also I think to protect seed for Pat.

I think it was more about protecting seed for Kennedy than anything, which is sad IMO. And to keep the team score down, which I believe did work. (don't know PK's history with Haines offhand, but assume it's not good like most of the people who wrestle him 🙂) Gabe did a good job.

We all know PK is a warrior, and I'm certain he wanted to be out there, which he should have been IMO, and let the chips fall where they may.

It could protect his seed insofar as Kennedy avoids a L which other 174 lbers that wrestle Levi would have (assuming they lost) such as Minto, Karchula, etc. Not saying that was the sole reason for it, but just b/c Kennedy was a lower seed does not mean it was a win or break even scenario when looking at the weight as a whole.

I disagree with you here. If this was the case why did we throw out lower ranked guys at 125, 133, 149, and 165? They all were underdogs (some big underdogs) and took losses that will hurt there seeding for B10s too.

How is it protecting a seed when Haines will be seeded above him either way. It was a win or break even scenario. Win and we possibly jump him in seed/ lose and nobody expected differently.
PK already has 1 loss. If he takes a loss Friday and again at BTT he could find himself on the 4/5 line. By doing "the best thing for Patrick Kennedy" our coach, who claims we don't duck, kept PK in the hunt for a 3 seed by ducking. No fault, it's just something everyone does now.

It's always possible that PK tweaked something against WI, especially given the fact he chose to do nothing in the 3rd period, and that he really wasn't ducking. But we'll never know.

Gabe was better match up style wise. Defensive. Can bring some experience with Haines in the room to PK.

Perhaps he was recovering from the flu. It's been going around.

PK already has experience with Haines, and he's likely to get more (hopefully). From a dual meet perspective it might actually make some sense to go with Gabe, but not for a tournament.

PK could wrestle Haines 100 times and he’d lose every time. GA at least gives you a Hail Mary as evidenced by him being a takedown away from winning at the end. It’s just a horrible match up for Patrick.

Okay - thank you. Time for one of the great quotes in sports history.

Tennis star Vitas Gerulaitis' dead-panned this post match comment after finally beating Jimmy Connors after 16 losses - "Nobody beats Vitas Gerulaitis 17 times in a row!"

Never say never. Mark Perry had a similar path going with Johny Hendricks.......until he didn't. 😉 (of course Perry brought more to the table than PK but ...... he finally got over that hump).
