They went woke and went broke.
Some truth to that, sure. 1982 is correct though. In the social media age, there's no use for Sportscenter or their daily shows. A game winning shot or a dude breaking his leg will be posted on twitter immediately after it happens. ESPN has also been paying these on-air "talents" way too much. They're not athletes. ESPN was needed in 1998. In 2021, not so much.

Apparently he was making $3 million a year, yeah no wonder he got the axe. I really like him, but he didn't seem to be putting in much work these days on air.

A lot of truth. ESPN let politics creep into everything they do. Nobody wants to be preached to about politics when the team they like is on playing a game.

Remember when Bruce Jenner’s team threatened to pull out of the Diane Sawyer interview with ABC when ESPN was dragging their feet on giving him an ESPY (since they’re owned by the same company) and then caved?

ESPN is trash just like most talking heads polluting the airwaves with nonsense.

You had Craig Kilborn, Keith Oberman, Dan Patrick, and Stuart Scott in order of popularity during the 90s depending on your personality I guess. There were a couple of chicks thrown in obviously.

Rich Eisen was solid and Kenny Mayne...was always there with his dry act in the last couple of decent years. I appreciate dry humor and it always seemed his was stifled. He never seemed impressive.

that aside...I bet he’s a wonderful person to hang with just by the Tom Petty reference In his Twitter ‘ into the great wide open‘

Off topic, but whatever dumbass designed or programmed the "Similar threads" clutter at the bottom of the page should be fired. It shows Kenny Payne threads. Just matching on the string "Kenny *ayne"!

Never really like him as much as the other original era anchors. However he's worlds better than the horrific fools they have now. I stopped watching years ago for that very reason.

Just another example of many as to why ESPN is horrible

The many pissons over the years at ESPN could still be employed if they spread the wealth of Stephen A. Smith's ridiculous $8 million per year salary.
