Just counted in KenPom... we are 47th overall and listed 12th in the B1G. Rankings like that don't mean much at this point in the season really, and it certainly could change as the season progresses, but the conference is looking pretty good early on. Might be tough competition once we get to conference play - means it will be hard to put up a winning record in B1G, but that teams will probably get a bit more leeway with the committee due to SOS.

Michigan 7
MSU Purdue Wisconsin 12,13,14
Indiana 18
Nebraska 28, OSU 30
Iowa PSU Maryland 33,35,36
Minnesota 45, Northwestern 47

Illinois 77
Rutgers 135

Depending on Jordan’s Ash health, I think we will be top 25 KenPom and AP Top 25 within three weeks. Jordan Ash is the Isaiah Bowser of the Hoops team!

I noticed this and am excited to see how things pan out. We are at least starting at a decent point, and despite some negative comments the non-con strength of schedule looks pretty good. If we beat Fresno State that should allow us to play two more games against good competition.

I recall (perhaps incorrectly) that Northwestern has not won a preseason tournament in many years. Off the top of my head I don't remember any since 1985.

One thing I don't like about some ratings (including KenPom) is they set a rating to begin the year. With all of its flaws RPI started everyone at 0 every year and moved from there.

I believe they won the Charleston Classic a few years ago.

Yeah... and didn’t we win one down in Puerto Rico too?

We also had a couple wins over maybe Iowa St and Notre Dame (?) one year in a holiday classic in Chicago, not sure what exactly it was called.

Yep, Carmody teams often played very well early in the year but lack of depth killed them in the Big Ten season.
