Kentucky's upcoming game against West Virginia is following an increasingly familiar pattern. Before walking the walk, opponents talk the talk: Kentucky can be beaten and - fill in the blank - is the team to do it.

West Virginia's leading scorer, Juwan Staten, followed the script after the Mountaineers ousted Maryland on Sunday night to advance to a Sweet 16 game against undefeated Kentucky on Thursday.

"Dev said it best; they put their drawers on the same way we put ours on," Staten said in echoing the we're-not-intimidated sentiment of teammate Devin Williams.

Like many previous opponents, especially in the Southeastern Conference and NCAA tournaments, Staten embraced

Sea of Blue: Examining WV by the Numbers..........

By Keith Garrett
SB Nation

The 36-0 West Virginia Mountaineers this Thursday with a trip to the elite 8 on the line. Everybody knows that Bob Huggins will be on the sideline for the game and Huggins has had success against Coach Cal. What you may not know is exactly who this West Virginia team is and what their strength and weaknesses really are. There is also the matter of the Cal vs. Huggins story being more hype than substance.

I wanted to take an in-depth look at the teams themselves and see if there were red flags or any real reasons to worry if you are a member of Big Blue Nation. There will be many narratives out there and one of the louder ones will be Coach Huggins' record against Coach Cal. Cal has not fared well against Huggins to the tune of a 2-8 record against him.

SB Nation: Pundits Working OT to find ways WV beats UK

by Glenn Logan

Sea of Blue

Radio show talkers and practically everyone else in college basketball are trying very hard to beat the threw himself 100% behind the Mountaineers and against the Wildcats in the upcoming Sweet Sixteen matchup:
"They're No. 1 in forcing turnovers," Battier said. "They're going to force 20 turnovers (against Kentucky). They are (one of the best teams in) offensive rebounding. What's Kentucky's weakness? Offensive rebounding. I think most importantly the toughness of West Virginia is going to give Kentucky problems. They're going to sock them in the mouth and we'll see how Kentucky reacts. I'm excited."

Well, I'm excited as well. It should be fun. But let's examine Shane's prognostication for just a second.

Louisville Courier: Can Calipari Avoid 2010 Repeat?

By Kyle Tucker

Courier Journal

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Here we go. It's Kentucky vs. West Virginia in the Sweet 16, which means John Calipari vs. Bob Huggins. Those two are friends, but the matchup has not be friendly to Calipari. He's 2-8 in his career against Huggins, who tells a funny story about the time in 2002 when he had a heart attack in the Pittsburgh airport.

In the ambulance on the way to the hospital, as Huggins tells it, he found out the emergency medical technician was Calipari's nephew. At the time, Huggins was 5-0 in their head-to-head rivalry.

"I heard this voice say, 'I'm not going to let you die until Cal beats you once,' " Huggins said back in 2010 at the NCAA Tournament, right before delivering what is surely one of the bitterest pills Calipari has ever had to swallow.

So the writer is basically saying, if you're fearless, you're foolish. I guess he's never been an athlete that believes in himself, even against the odds. Stupid article.

Completely stupid. What are our players supposed to say? It's not like anybody is guaranteeing a victory or talking smack. It is true (at least as far as I know) that the Kentucky players dress themselves in the morning, just like everyone else. That is literally all that Devin Williams said.

Maybe Calipari pays someone to dress the UK players so they don't have to dress themselves, and that's why everyone is making such a big deal of what our players have said.

And completely over-analyzed....

and when the game is played, what he said will be proven wrong.

Kentucky believes they are the Roman Empire. Thinking they are invincible. We all know what happened to the Roman Empire.
