Underwhelmed he ll be in Lex 1 year the rate pope is going in the reg season. I mean popes coaching like this is year one and he’s building a program. I don’t think he got the memo that he has one more year. I honestly believe he thinks he’s at Kentucky for five years until his contract contracts up. scratch that he’s got four more years on this contract. So Pope’s operating under the notion he has four years and every time he hits a sweet 16 I’ll have another year he’s he thinks he’s building a program. He should’ve built a program taking his lumps his first year you don’t do it in year three year three is a major evaluation year. I mean, I would argue that Pope didn’t make it two year three he should be out on his butt. UNC is going to show UK how it’s done.

I’m telling you guys the guys the people that have been able to resuscitate our program they’re gone we’ve lost them. We’ve lost a lot of people during Barney’s 25 years quarter century. But we need to find new people who know the Kentucky standard people that are competent and we need a superstar involved. I mean, if Kentucky is this behemoth historically we should have superstars man we should have people it’s hard to say no to.. people who know how to sell

He made a final four 2 years ago...as a HEAD coach.
I'm as critical of Pope as anybody but Keatts would be a slam dunk hire as an assistant coach for any program, imo.

UNC gave Davis 5 years, they aren't showing UK how to do anything.

He was going to be fired that year, then his team pulled off a near-miracle and made the final four, which kicked in a contract extension.

I’ll be honest that I don’t know much about him except that he made that miracle Final Four in 2024 then still got fired one year later because his next team was so bad, so I don’t immediately have a strong opinion on bringing him on as an assistant.

Does anyone know if he’s known for something in particular that he hangs his hat on as a coach? Recruiting? Defense? Player development?

That’s what I’m saying. He had decent success at State early guiding them through probation. Finished 3rd in the ACC his first year. He then struggled around .500 but made that run. Then cratered out at 12-17 and got fired. He was an assistant under Pitino on their championship team. 2011-2014, he was coach of the year at UNC Wilmington and Marshall before getting the State job. Probably a solid assistant overall. He was recruiting for Louisville when they found a lot of under rated players who turned out very good at least.

That would be a high quality hire. He was known as a recruiter and was able to get good players on his team, either HS or transfers. He obviously had the one magical FF run. In the Pitino tree as well. Another former HC, this time in a power conference, and he wasn't a terrible HC by any means, much better than Antigua or Barbee for example.

I would like the staff to add someone known as a defensive guy. It sounds like there's still a chance Fox is gone this offseason, and another thread I read today said he may have been largely tasked with teaching the defense, so maybe a replacement at that position would cover the same thing.

IIRC they had to win from the very first day of the ACC tourney just to get into the NCAAT. That part is just wild and proves just how random March is.
All Virginia had to do was foul before State shot a miracle 3 pointer, and NC State's season would have ended early in the ACC tournament.

For like 3 weeks out of 8 total seasons, Kevin Keatts actually was "a winner" as the NC State media blitz told us when he was hired. He just gave the ball to DJ Burns and let him cook.

I can't remember, was he an assistant at Louisville back when strippers were having sex with recruits?

I’m just hoping that he has Pre game speech’s and game plans so we don’t always play catch up in the second half

Going for 9 you'd be underwhelmed with anything you complain just to complain. We haven't started next season, portal hasn't opened. We aren't firing the coach, if he turns it around who knows.
He was on the old site. Anyone that thinks he's a UK fan is wasting precious time.

Their guard was really good as well. DJ Horn I think his name was.

He definitely stood up & yelled instructions when they were on defense, so I would say the defense or lack thereof is definitely on him.

Always thot of him as average at best at NC State, despite his FF run .. it's up to Pope not us
